Dayanidhi Maran, son Karan to launch digital entertainment venture

Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his son Karan Dayanidhi Maran are set to launch a digital entertainment venture focused on mobile-first streaming content, according to people familiar with the matter.
The business, which will operate under the newly created Maran Group, is expected to debut as a subscription-led video platform targeting younger, mobile-native audiences. The venture is likely to focus on short-form drama content, a format that has gained traction through platforms such as Pocket TV and KuKu TV.

The streaming business is expected to function largely as a subsidiary within the broader Maran Group, which is being spearheaded by Dayanidhi Maran himself, people familiar with the plans told The Federal.
Fresh business foray
Karan Maran, a graduate of the University of Manchester, will lead the venture. He previously founded businesses including Cloutgency, a digital marketing agency, and KKIX, a sneaker-customisation platform. With a background in accounting and finance, he has also worked as a fund manager at MUTIS Ethical Investment Fund.
The move marks a fresh business foray for the Maran family following last year’s dispute between Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother Kalanithi Maran over share transactions linked to Sun TV Network. The disagreement was later resolved through mediation involving senior DMK leaders including former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
