Arya reveals why his Karuppu cameo was removed from Suriya’s film

Arya has finally revealed why his much-anticipated cameo in Suriya's Karuppu never made it to screens, despite him having actually shot for it

Ahead of the release of Suriya's Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, speculation was rife that actor Arya would be appearing in a cameo role. Those rumours, it turns out, were grounded in truth. Arya did shoot for a small experimental part in the film, but audiences never got to see it, either in theatres or on OTT. Now, while promoting his upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Ananthan Kaadu, the Sarapatta Parambarai actor has finally broken his silence on what happened.

Balaji called before the cut

Arya revealed that director RJ Balaji personally reached out to explain the decision. "He said it didn't work out in the larger scheme of things in the film and informed me before removing my scenes from it. We will work together later on another project," the actor said. The gesture of being informed beforehand, Arya indicated, was appreciated.

Others left on the floor too

Arya's deleted appearance was not the only casualty. Karuppu editor Kalaivanan had previously revealed that scenes featuring actor Kaali Venkat, as well as references to Vijay's The GOAT and Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor, were also dropped. Actress Swasika had similarly confirmed that some of her scenes did not make it to the final cut.

Karuppu and what's next

Despite the cuts, Karuppu emerged as a landmark commercial success, reportedly becoming Suriya's first film to cross the Rs 300-crore mark worldwide. As for Arya, he now looks ahead to Ananthan Kaadu, directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar, and also has Pa Ranjith's Vettuvam in the pipeline.
