US mid-term polls LIVE: Iranian officials say results show voters have rejected Trump's war
Democratic control will profoundly reshape Trump's final two years in office and likely hamstring his agenda
Democrats have won control of the US House in addition to the US Senate, delivering a shockingly decisive rebuke of Republican governance in Washington and ushering in a new era of congressional resistance to President Donald Trump.
The midterm elections Tuesday (November 3) channeled voters' deep frustrations over high prices, the Iran war and concerns over government corruption. Democrats routed their rivals across the map, from Texas to Iowa to New Hampshire, including states Trump won by double digits just two years ago.
Democratic control will profoundly reshape Trump's final two years in office and likely hamstring his agenda.
Trump’s veto threat
Trump has promised he would use his veto power to block Democrats’ agenda, forecasting the potential for gridlock in Washington.
Democrats charted an extraordinary path to Senate victory through some of the most conservative states in the nation.
The elections will drastically shift power in Washington. Democrats had been cautiously optimistic heading into Tuesday as they watched Republicans spend the campaign’s final stretch pumping tens of millions of dollars into states and districts that Trump won handily two years ago, and watched Trump campaign across some of the reddest states.
They had bet that discontent over Trump’s failure to stop inflation and perceptions that he's focused more on gilding the nation’s capital than easing their pain at the pump will turn the tide in their favor.
Republicans had held out hope their money advantage would help stem the tide, but they were bracing to lose control of the U.S. House and fighting to hang onto the U.S. Senate — an outcome that seemed unlikely earlier this year, given a map widely seen as favoring their party.

Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz won election Tuesday to the US House of Representatives representing Florida's 20th Congressional District, defeating Republican Brent Andersen.
Wasserman Schultz's switch to a new congressional district paid off as the former Democratic National Committee chair secured a 12th term in office. She is the first Jewish congresswoman elected from Florida and served in the state's House and Senate before winning federal office. Andersen founded a commercial and property insurance company and said that experience gave him unique insight into lowering property insurance costs, a growing concern in Florida. The Associated Press declared Wasserman Schultz the winner at 7:09 p.m. EST.

US vote in most consequential elections; early surveys predict change
Americans voted in the most consequential midterm elections, which early surveys predicted as a rebuke to President Donald Trump, signalling a mood for change.
Over 210 million Americans were eligible to vote in the elections, which began at 6.00 am eastern time on Tuesday for 435 seats of the US House of Representatives, 37 seats of the US Senate, 36 posts of state governors and a slew of local public offices.
Polling was over in Indiana and Kentucky at 6.00 pm eastern time on Tuesday (4.30 am India time Wednesday) and would close in a staggered manner till past midnight across different time zones in the US.
According to some preliminary national results of CNN’s Voter Poll, voters were broadly unhappy with the state of the nation, the condition of the economy and Trump’s job performance.
Trump was in his White House office throughout the day with his advisors as Americans lined up to vote at polling booths across the country.
On Tuesday afternoon, he shared endorsements for Republican candidates in a series of posts on X.
Speaking to staffers and volunteers at a phone bank in Washington, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said the Democrats were on the “brink of dramatic change” and on the “brink” of taking back the House.
“We’re going to deliver a Congress that actually puts the American people first,” he said.
A Fox News voters’ survey found that the most important issue facing the country is the economy, followed closely by the state of democracy.
At the White House, Trump was watching the pre-election results coverage on Fox News but complained about a liberal commentator on the television channel.
“Watching the Pre-Election Results on Fox News, but I can’t stand Jessica Tarlov’s voice — DUMB AS A ROCK, but it’s the voice that gets me. Have to go somewhere else until that LOSER is off the air — I’ll be back later,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
