India has made it clear to world that “we can go to any extent against terrorism”, Defence Minister tells troops in Kashmir in his first visit since Op Sindoor
Following the May 10 understanding between India and Pakistan on cessation of hostilities, Indian officials said on Thursday (May 15) that they decided to continue the confidence-building measures to reduce the alertness level.
The clarification came after Pakistan military said the understanding on ending the hostilities has been extended until May 18.
"Further to the understanding between the two DGMOs (Directors General of Military Operations) on May 10, it has been decided to continue the confidence building measures so as to reduce the alertness level," an Indian Army official said.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday kick-started a crucial visit to Jammu and Kashmir to take stock of the overall security situation, especially along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border.
“India has never been a votary of war, but when our sovereignty is attacked, we will respond,” Singh told troops in Srinagar during the visit. He added that India has made it clear to world that “we can go to any extent against terrorism”. “Operation Sindoor is the biggest action taken by India against terrorism,” he asserted.
It is his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir since Operation Sindoor, top military officials will brief the defence minister on various aspects of the prevailing security situation. The defence minister will review the overall situation as well as combat readiness of the frontline troops at the Indian Army’s XV Corps in Srinagar.

On Thursday morning, three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Nadir village of Tral in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, said an India Today report. The three terrorists were reportedly identified as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani and Yawar Ahmad Bhat, all residents of Pulwama.
The encounter — the second in as many days — broke out between security forces and terrorists in Awantipora, said the state police on X. Under Operation Keller on Tuesday (May 13), three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian. The encounter initially began in Kulgam and then shifted to a forest area in Shopian.

IndiGo on Thursday said the partnership with Turkish Airlines provides multiple benefits to Indian travellers and the country's economy by enhancing connectivity as well as making international travel more affordable.
The comments from the country's largest airline come at a time when there are calls in certain quarters for boycotting Turkish goods and tourism in the wake of Turkiye backing Islamabad and condemning India's recent strikes on terror camps in Pakistan. Some online travel portals and associations have also issued advisories asking people not to visit Turkiye.
Currently, IndiGo operates direct flights to Istanbul with two leased aircraft from Turkish Airlines having over 500 seats each. It also offers codeshare seats to more than 40 points in Europe and the US. A codeshare partnership allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carrier and there will be a single ticket.

BJP takes out 'Tiranga' rallies in Kashmir valley to celebrate Op Sindoor's success
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP organised "Tiranga" rallies at several places in the valley on Thursday to celebrate the armed forces' success in carrying out Operation Sindoor.
The rallies were taken out in Srinagar, Pahalgam and Kupwara.
In Srinagar, the party activists assembled at the Sher-e-Kashmir Park and started the rally that culminated at the historic Ghanta Ghar, the iconic clock tower at the Lal Chowk city centre.
Similar rallies were organised in Pahalgam, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in a terror attack on April 22 that led to Operation Sindoor, and Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district

BJP calls Tiranga Yatra society's tribute to military for Op Sindoor
Rajasthan BJP leaders on Thursday extolled the armed forces for "breaking the back of terrorists" through Operation Sindoor and asserted the Tiranga Yatra taken out here on Thursday was not just the party's tribute but the society's homage to the military.
The march, which began at Albert Hall and culminated at Badi Chaupad, saw Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, his deputy Diya Kumari, and several senior BJP leaders in attendance. Hundreds of BJP workers and locals marched with the tricolour in hand, raising patriotic slogans.
People showered flowers on the procession at multiple points, including at New Gate, Bapu Bazaar, Sanganeri Gate, Johri Bazaar, and Jama Masjid. Sending out a message of communal unity, members of the minority community welcomed the march at Jama Masjid.

Punjab: Life returning to normal in border villages of Ferozepur
Life in the villages situated along the India-Pakistan border in this Punjab district is returning to normal, with the villagers coming back to their homes after they had left for safer places following tensions between India and Pakistan.
After the two neighbouring countries arrived at an agreement on May 10 to halt military actions, the residents of the border villages started coming back.
