Operation Sindoor LIVE | 'We killed 100 terrorists, Pak targeted our civilians'

At DGMOs briefing, the Indian Army gives a day-by-day account of how Operation Sindoor panned out from May 7 to date

Over 100 terrorists, including high-value targets such as Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf and Mudasir Ahmed, were eliminated during Operation Sindoor on May 7, the Indian military said during a press briefing in Delhi on Sunday evening (May 11).

Nine terror targets were identified after careful deliberations and they were hit using precision weapons, Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said at the media briefing.

Pakistan's losses

He said the Pakistan Army is reported to have lost 35 to 40 personnel between May 7 and 10 in the military offensives between the two sides.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) identified nine targets in Pakistan after a careful deliberation under Operation Sindoor, and launched strikes, Air Marshal AK Bharti.

India did not target Pakistani military installations or civilians, he said.

Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from the Army, Air Force and Navy gave a day-by-day account of how Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 Indian civilians on April 22, panned out.

What Rajnath Singh said

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Indian armed forces not only struck Pakistani military bases near the border but their might was even felt in Rawalpindi where the headquarters of the Pakistani Army is located. This came a day after India agreed to a conditional ceasefire with Pakistan, which the latter violated later in the evening.

Singh’s comment came as several media reports suggested that India may have used, for the first time ever, its mighty supersonic BrahMos missile on Pakistan. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister added fuel to the speculation by saying at an event that people had “seen a glimpse of the valour of the BrahMos missile during Operation Sindoor”. “And if the glimpse was not visible, then ask Pakistanis about the strength of the missile,” he added.

On Sunday, India’s border with Pakistan along Jammu and Kashmir bore a semblance of normalcy as no cross-border shelling, sound of aircraft, missiles, or drones flying overhead were reported on Saturday night through Sunday morning.

Pak violates ceasefire deal

Pakistan on Saturday night violated the bilateral understanding reached in the afternoon to immediately stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea.

This came hours after India announced the understanding following four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes that brought the two countries teetering on the edge of full-scale war.

Senior BJP leaders hold consultations following Indo-Pak ceasefire

A number of senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and J P Nadda, held consultations on Sunday in what is seen as part of the ruling party's deliberations over the political import and its strategy to reach out to people following India targeting Pakistan as part of Operation Sindoor.

Senior BJP leaders held consultations at the residence of Nadda, who is the BJP president as well, even though there was no official word on the agenda.

It is a common practice of senior Union ministers from the BJP to hold regular consultations over the germane issues.

The BJP, sources said, is planning an elaborate communication drive to reach out to the masses over the success of the government's military action against Pakistan amid attempts by the opposition to target it over the agreement with Pakistan to stop military actions under the alleged US mediation. Akhilesh Yadav attacks BJP over trolling of Foreign Secretary Misri, family

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre for remaining "silent" while a top-ranking official and his family allegedly face "shameful, objectionable and deeply unfortunate" personal attacks by "anti-social and criminal elements" on social media.

The former chief minister said that the matter was not merely personal but of national concern as such attacks can demoralise upright officers, who work tirelessly for the nation.

“It is the government’s responsibility to take decisions — not individual officers. Some anti-social criminal elements are openly crossing all limits of abusive language against the officer and his family, but neither the BJP government nor any of its ministers is coming forward to protect their honour and respect and talking about taking any action against those who post such unwanted posts," said Yadav.

Such posts and statements break the morale of honest officers, who work day and night dedicated to the country, he added.

Yadav also posted a report "Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, family face Hindutva handles' online abuse amid India-Pak ceasefire".

Woman booked for offensive social media status on Operation Sindoor; man held for anti-India post

A 40-year-old beautician from Malwani in Mumbai was booked for her allegedly objectionable social media status on ‘Operation Sindoor’ launched by Indian armed forces, police said on Sunday.

In another case, police arrested a 20-year-old student, a resident of the Kurla area, for allegedly posting anti-India comments concerning the military strikes.

In the first case, an FIR was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a notice was served to the woman, who runs a beauty parlour, for joining the investigation.

“When governments make reckless decisions, it's the innocent on both sides who pay the price, not the ones in power,” the woman stated on her WhatsApp status while suffixing a slang term to dismiss Operation Sindoor.

An official said the student from Kurla was arrested after police found that he had uploaded an anti-India post on his Instagram account.

India, Pakistan DGMOs only finalised understanding on cessation of hostilities: Sources

Pakistan realised that India meant business after its eight air bases were destroyed, and "sued for peace" by seeking a cessation of hostilities, government sources said on Sunday.

There was no need for third-party intervention and, in fact, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to convey that the Pakistanis got the message after being hammered by Indian missiles, they said.

The comments dilute US President Donald Trump's claim that American mediation brought about peace, said the sources, pointing out that Trump is given to hyperbole.

On Saturday, the US president claimed credit for the understanding reached between India and Pakistan on halting all military actions, saying the two sides agreed on a "full and immediate ceasefire" after a "long night of talks mediated by the US".

The sources cited above said the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan reached the understanding and no third party was involved.

Following India's strikes on nine terror infrastructures early on May 7, Pakistan attempted to attack several Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10.

The Pakistani actions on the intervening night of May 9 and 10 was the most severe, following which India struck eight key Pakistani military installations, inflicting heavy damages.

The sources said following India's attacks on the Pakistani installations, Pakistan pleaded for cessation of hostilities and its DGMO called his Indian counterpart.

The understanding on halting military actions was firmed up by the two DGMOs, the sources said, dismissing Washington's claims of brokering the "ceasefire".

Around two hours after the conversation between the two DGMOs, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday evening announced that India and Pakistan reached an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea with immediate effect.

"We have maintained from the start the only talking which will be done between India and Pakistan will be between the DGMOs and directly," said a source.

The sources also downplayed comments by the US administration about mediation on the Kashmir issue and talks between India and Pakistan at a "neutral site".

"We do not have anything to discuss with Islamabad on the Kashmir issue, other than the return of parts of illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan," said a source.

"There is nothing else to discuss. They have to hand over the illegally occupied territory and they can do it directly. We don't need anybody in between," it said, rejecting involvement of any third party on the issue. PTI
