MP officials in fix over nine children born to Indian mothers, Pakistani fathers

Amid the Centre's stern 'leave the country' order following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, authorities in Madhya Pradesh are in a fix over nine children in the state born to Pakistani fathers and Indian mothers, an official said.

They are also looking for a solution in the case of a Pakistani man who applied for a Long Term Visa (LTV) on April 25 in Bhopal just before the Union government's order, the official informed on Monday.

"We have sought advice from the Centre on nine children born to Indian mothers and Pakistani fathers. Four children are with their mothers in Indore, three in Jabalpur and two in Bhopal. We have also sought advice on the man who applied for LTV on April 25," the top official, on condition of anonymity, told PTI.

At least 14 persons in Madhya Pradesh, including these nine children, were supposed to leave the country as per the Union government's order, he added.

"Of them, three have left India and reached Pakistan. One person is in Delhi due to some issue, which is being looked into by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office," he said.

As per another official, there are 228 Pakistani nationals on different types of visas in Madhya Pradesh.

Solidarity in wake of Pahalgam attack testimony to international community’s zero tolerance for terrorism: India

India said that the "strong, unequivocal" support and solidarity extended by global leaders in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam is a testimony to the international community’s "zero tolerance" for terrorism.

"The Pahalgam terrorist attack represents the largest number of civilian casualties since the horrific 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008,” India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Yojna Patel, said.

"Having been a victim of cross-border terrorism for decades, India fully understands the long-lasting impact such acts have on victims, their families and society," Patel added.

Patel was speaking at the hybrid launch event for the ‘Victims of Terrorism Association Network’ (VoTAN) of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism at the world body’s headquarters on Monday.

She said that “India deeply appreciates and values the strong, unequivocal support and solidarity extended by leaders and governments across the world in the wake of the recent terrorist attack at Pahalgam, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This is a testimony to the international community’s zero tolerance for terrorism.” The horrific April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam killed 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen. The victims were mostly tourists from all across India.

Global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, US Vice President J D Vance, Russian President Vladimir Putin, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed their condolences and solidarity with India.

Last week, the 15-nation UN Security Council issued a Press Statement condemning "in the strongest terms” the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable and organisers and sponsors of this "reprehensible act of terrorism" should be brought to justice.

The Council members “stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard.” A press statement is a declaration to the media made by the President of the Security Council on behalf of all 15 Members.

People of Kashmir will no longer tolerate violence: Sajad Lone on Pahalgam attack

The barbaric attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam has awakened the people of Kashmir, who will no longer tolerate violence, Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone said on Monday.

Speaking on a resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to condemn the April 22 terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists, Lone asserted that the people must be engaged positively rather than pushed back by punitive actions.

He said several areas of Jammu and Kashmir are earning their livelihoods from the tourism sector, and the dastardly terror attack was a direct attempt to uproot a generation.

"We are thankful to our nation, which woke up after 35 years to unequivocally condemn the attack on our guests.

"Leaving politics aside, I am of the opinion that the violence has some sort of acceptance in our society as some people have accepted it as a legitimate thing, but their number is continuously declining," Lone said.

A former minister whose father and Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone was also assassinated by terrorists, Lone said there was a “social sanctity” to violence in the Kashmiri society, but that has changed post the Pahalgam incident.

"We saw people coming out in every nook and corner to mark the social stigmatisation of violence. The people are no more ready to accept the violence – this is the start of the end of social sanctity of violence," he said.

However, he asserted that there is a need to create such an atmosphere where the mindset linked to the social sanctity of violence must be changed.

"The biggest challenge for the law enforcers in the last 37 years was, at times, not being able to distinguish between an innocent and a terrorist. For capturing a terrorist, we have seen four innocents getting killed and villages burnt down in the past three decades,” he said.

Lone requested that the law enforcement agencies not do anything intentionally or unintentionally where a mindset is forced on people against their wishes.

Indian diaspora in Moscow pays tribute to Pahalgam victims

Led by Vinay Kumar, the Indian ambassador to the Russian Federation, Moscow-based members of the Indian diaspora paid tribute to the 26 victims of the Pahalgam attack by observing a minute's silence and expressing condolences to the bereaved families.

In a packed DP Dhar Hall of the Indian Embassy, the Indian community was joined by Tatiana Shaumyan, a Padma Shri recipient and head of the India Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies and Research, who expressed solidarity with the people of India in combating terrorism.

Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam last week.

Ambassador Kumar expressed anguish at the dastardly terror attack on civilians.

In a democratic country with a pluralistic society such as India, it is natural to have divergent views, he noted.

"We have numerous platforms for peacefully voicing dissent," he said, deploring terrorist violence.

Speaking at the condolence meeting, the Brahma Kumaris' Moscow chapter chief Sudha Didi urged for transforming the condolence meeting into a peace assembly.
