As part of the stepped-up anti-terror operations, security forces have raided more than 600 locations in the Valley in just six days and grilled hundreds of suspects

Police on Monday (April 28) carried out raids at dozens of places in Srinagar, Doda and Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir as part of the massive clampdown on terror ecosystem launched after the horrific Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 persons dead.

A spokesman said the searches were carried out across the length and breadth of Srinagar city at 36 locations. Most of the premises belong to terrorists or terrorist sympathisers.

As part of the stepped-up anti-terror operations, security forces have raided more than 600 locations in the Valley in just six days and grilled hundreds of suspects. Authorities have also demolished nine houses of suspected terrorists and overground workers of terror outfits since the April 22 attack in the lush meadows of Baisaran.

Ban on Pak YouTube channels

The Centre on Monday blocked 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including Dawn News and Ary News, for allegedly disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content as well as false and misleading narratives against India, its Army, and security agencies.

The decision was taken following recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs in the wake of the April 22 terror attack at Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

The other banned YouTube channels include Irshad Bhatti, SAMAA TV, BOL NEWS, Raftar, The Pakistan Referenc, Geo News, Samaa Sports, GNN, Uzair Cricket, Umar Cheema Exclusive, Asma Shirazi, Muneeb Farooq, SUNO News, and Razi Naama.

Letter to BBC

The government has also sent a formal letter to the BBC over its terming terrorists "militants" in its reportage on the Pahalgam tragedy.

In a communication to Jackie Martin, BBC's India Head, the Ministry of External Affairs has conveyed the country's strong sentiments regarding their reporting on the terror attack at Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

"A formal letter has been sent to the BBC on the terming of terrorists as militants. The External Publicity Division of the MEA will be monitoring the reporting of the BBC," the official said.

Unprovoked Pak firing for 4th day

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Kupwara districts, continuing with their ceasefire violations along the LoC, Army officials said on Monday.

This was the fourth consecutive night that Pakistan resorted to small-arms fire along the Line of Control (LoC) and came amid heightened tension between New Delhi and Islamabad following the Pahalgam terror attack.

A defence spokesperson said, "During the night of April 27-28, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts." Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively, he added.

Have faith in PM Modi, terror attack will be avenged: LoP in J-K Assembly

Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma on Monday asked the people to have full faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that he will not remain silent and the Pahalgam terror attack will be avenged.

Speaking on a resolution passed in the J-K assembly here to condemn the terror strike, the BJP leader paid homage to the 26 people, mostly tourists, killed in the April 22 incident and lauded the people for "frustrating terror conspirators" who wished to divide the nation on communal lines.

“Though it took us 36 years to unite against terror, it also brought us on the same page with the nation. The conspiracy was also to divide us, but we made it clear that no conspiracy can divide us,” he said.

“We should have full faith in our Prime Minister who is running a government which has a strong will and has demonstrated it time and again...

"We must be rest assured that that 26 lives snatched from us will be avenged. The person who had made India proud is not the one who can stay silent,” the LoP said.

Sharma said the entire humanity has been shattered by this inhuman act and the whole country is in grief and shock.

He appreciated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his outreach in the aftermath of the attack and said the all-party meeting convened by him sent a strong message that “we are standing united in this hour of grief”. PTI

Tejasvi Surya slams K'taka govt over Rs 10 lakh compensation for kin of victims

BJP leader Tejasvi Surya on Monday slammed the Karnataka government for announcing Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the Pahalgam terror attack victims and called it "shameful" for not considering adequate support for the survivors.

Manjunath Rao and Bharath Bushan were among the 26 people killed in front of their families after confirming their religious identity in Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday. Most of those killed by terrorists were tourists.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, the BJP MP expressed deep disappointment over the "paltry Rs 10 lakh compensation" announced by the state government for the families of the terror attack victims.

Both women are single mothers supporting young children and need urgent help to educate and secure their future, he said.

"When Karnataka Government could award a compensation of Rs 15 lakh after a man was trampled to death by an elephant in Rahul Gandhi's previous constituency in Wayanad, it's shameful that it is not even considering a suitable compensation for the survivors of the terror attack," he said.

In solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, the BJP MP said that the Hindu society of Bengaluru South today came forward to support the families of Manjunath Rao and Bharat Bhushan, on his appeal.

According to him, Rs 10,00,001 each is being given to both families. Rs 1 more than the amount announced by the "insensitive Siddaramaiah led government. A total support of Rs 20,00,002. PTI

Terrorists who brutally killed innocent people must be punished: Israeli envoy

Terrorists who brutally killed innocent people in Pahalgam should be punished, an Israeli envoy said on Monday, stressing that India knows what to do to protect its citizens.

Kobbi Shoshan, Consul General of Israel in Mumbai, described the deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists as terrible which reminded him of photos of other terror strikes that happened around the world, especially in Israel.

"India knows what to do to protect its citizens. Interests of India are supposed to be above all," he told PTI Videos.

"Terrorists who started such a brutal killing of innocent people should be punished. That's the most important thing," he added.

On terrorists asking about religion before shooting down tourists in Pahalgam, Shoshan said distinguishing between people is a very common practice in the terrorists' world.

"They know how to distinguish and to make a separation between their population and other populations. When you come to kill some people you are not a human being," he said. PTI

Get Pak under FATF grey list, launch cyber attacks, says Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday raised the aspect of storage after the Indus Waters Treaty was kept in abeyance by the Union government following the April 22 Pahalgam attack in a bid to punish Pakistan for backing terrorism.

The All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen chief also said Pakistan must be brought under the 'grey list' of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international watchdog on terror financing and money laundering. Presence in the grey list results in a country facing severe financial constraints.

Speaking to reporters at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra, Owaisi also said cyber attacks must be launched against Pakistan.

"Where will the water go after the Indus Waters Treaty was kept in abeyance? It has to be stored somewhere," Owaisi asked, though he added that since the decision has been taken by the Centre, his party would fully stand by it.

Under the World Bank-brokered treaty, India was granted exclusive rights to the water of the eastern rivers -- the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi -- amounting to an average annual flow of about 33 million acre-feet (MAF). The water of the western rivers -- the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab -- with an average annual flow of around 135 MAF, were largely allocated to Pakistan.

With the treaty now put in abeyance, the government is looking at ways to utilise the water of the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab.

Asked about Pakistan leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's statement against India following its withdrawal from the Indus Waters Treaty, Owaisi said he should ask who killed his mother (Benazir Bhutto). She was killed by such homegrown terrorists, Owaisi added.

"Pakistan should be brought under the grey list of FATF to show they are financing terrorism through illegal money. We will also demand from the government that cyber attacks should be undertaken against Pakistan as Article 51 of the UN law gives us the right to act in self defence," Owaisi asserted. PTI

Pro-Pak social media accounts falsely claiming docs on Indian Army's preparedness leaked: PIB

The government's Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday flagged that some pro-Pakistan social media accounts are falsely claiming that 'confidential documents' related to the preparedness of the Indian Army have been "leaked".

In a post on X, PIB Fact Check dubbed these documents as "fake".

This comes amid heightened tension between New Delhi and Islamabad following last week's terror attack in Pahalgam. On April 22, terrorists shot dead 26 people, mostly tourists, at a meadow in Baisaran of south Kashmir's Pahalgam.

A day after the brazen attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had firmed up New Delhi's retaliatory measures, directed the security forces to maintain "high vigil" and resolved to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.

PIB Fact Check in its post on X said, "Pro-Pakistan social media accounts are falsely claiming that confidential documents related to the preparedness of the #IndianArmy have been leaked. #PIBFactCheck These documents are #FAKE Please avoid sharing unverified information and rely only on official sources from the Government of India for accurate information".

The Ministry of Defence on Sunday cautioned that a "misleading" message is doing the rounds on WhatsApp claiming that the government has opened a bank account seeking donations for the modernisation of the Indian Army.

In a statement, the ministry debunked the message and urged people to "remain cautious and not fall prey to such fraudulent messages".

The PIB Fact Check had also alerted people about this "misleading" message with a post on X on Sunday. PTI
