Akasa, SpiceJet aircraft collide at Delhi Airport during taxiing
Two commercial aircraft reportedly made contact on the runway during taxiing; no major damage or injuries have been reported
A collision took place between an Akasa and a SpiceJet aircraft at the Delhi Airport on Thursday (April 16).
According to media reports, the two aircraft collided while they were taxying on the runway. They further stated that the collision was of a minor nature.
The right winglet of SpiceJet was damaged, and the left-hand horizontal stabiliser of Akasa was hit during the collision, reported NDTV.
Collision at Terminal 1
The incident was reported at around 2:15 pm near Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Akasa Air service, QP-1406, was scheduled to head to Hyderabad, while the SpiceJet aircraft, SG-124, flew in from Leh. Authorities said details of the occurrence were promptly shared with all concerned officials.

The SpiceJet B737-700 aircraft clipped the Akasa aircraft during ground movement, leaving visible damage on both. The SpiceJet jet sustained impact to its right winglet, while the Akasa aircraft reported damage to its left horizontal stabiliser. The SpiceJet aircraft has been taken out of service.
What Akasa Air said
Akasa Air said its aircraft, operating flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad, was not moving at the time.
“Preliminary information indicates that Akasa’s aircraft was stationary when another airline’s aircraft made contact with it,” an Akasa Air spokesperson said as quoted by India Today.

Following the contact, the Akasa aircraft returned to the bay.
“All passengers and crew were safely disembarked, and our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to fly our passengers to Hyderabad at the earliest,” the spokesperson said.
“At Akasa Air, the safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our highest priority,” the spokesperson added.
SpiceJet confirms collision
SpiceJet, in a separate statement, acknowledged the occurrence and said the incident happened during taxiing.
“On April 16, 2026, a SpiceJet B737-700 aircraft was involved in a ground occurrence while taxiing at Delhi airport, resulting in damage to its right winglet and the left-hand horizontal stabiliser of another aircraft belonging to a different airline,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.
The airline confirmed the aircraft has been grounded.
Both carriers said aviation authorities have been notified, and an inquiry is underway.
