NIA takes over probe into Delhi Red Fort blast: Live updates
Decision came hours after Amit Shah reviewed security situation in Delhi and other parts of country; no terror outfit has claimed responsibility, Modi vows justice
The probe into the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed at least 12 people and injured several others, has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday (November 11) transferred the car blast case to the NIA after links emerged connecting the incident to the Faridabad terror module, where a large cache of explosive material was seized, PTI reported.
A high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing at least 12 people and gutting several vehicles, officials said.
NIA takes over the probe
This is a clear indication that the blast, which has so far claimed 12 lives, is being considered by the government as an act of terror, as the NIA is mandated to probe terror cases only. "The blast case has been handed over to the NIA," a source told PTI.
The decision came hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in the national capital and other parts of the country following the blast.
Shah has called another security review meeting on Tuesday afternoon. He has said top investigating agencies are probing the blast and they will go in-depth into the incident.
The blast took place in a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing at least 12 people and gutting several vehicles.
PM in Bhutan
After the blast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took stock of the situation and expressed condolences over the deaths. No terror outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The police are scanning CCTV footage to determine the route of the vehicle before the blast occurred. They are questioning locals and asking eyewitnesses to share information about any suspicious activity in the lead-up to the incident.
Mobile dump data is being gathered, and dossiers of suspected terrorists are being scanned.
According to a fire department official, six cars, two e-rickshaws and one autorickshaw were gutted in the fire.

Police intensify search in Faridabad; question staff, doctors at Al Falah University
A day after 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable material was recovered from two rented rooms of a Kashmiri doctor in Faridabad, an extensive combing and search operation was being conducted in parts of the district on Tuesday (November 11).
Preliminary probe into the blast near Delhi's Red Fort that left seven dead and 20 injured on Monday (November 10) evening has suggested links to the alleged terror module uncovered in Faridabad.
Police question Al Falah staff
Police said a team is camping at the Al Falah University, where the Kashmiri doctor lived for the past three-and-a-half years, and are questioning staff and doctors at the varsity here, a senior police office said.
Several police personnel are conducting a search in the Dhauj police station area, he said.
Investigation so far revealed that a cleric here who was detained by police revealed that he had rented out his room to an autorickshaw driver who then gave it to Dr Muzammil for keeping "luggage" in the room.
Huge cache of arms, ammunition recovered
Eight people, including the Kashmiri man and two fellow doctors were arrested for allegedly being part of a white collar terror module involving the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and spanning Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, officials said.
Two other doctors, Adeel and Shaheen, have also been arrested in connection to the case.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from two rooms rented by Muzammil Ganaie alias Musaib (35) in Faridabad. A native of Koil in J-K’s Pulwama, he was a doctor working at Al Falah University at Dhauj, around 45 km from Delhi.
The blast in Delhi occurred hours after the recovery of 2,563 kg of explosives and inflammables from Dahar Colony in Fatehpur Taga village in Faridabad on Monday. Earlier, around 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate and a cache of arms and ammunition were recovered. Faridabad explosives seizure: Family of arrested doctor denies terror links
The family of Dr Muzammil Ganaie, who was arrested after 360 kilogram of explosives was recovered from his rented room in Faridabad on Tuesday claimed that there was no indication of the medico's involvement in terror activities.
"It is being alleged that he is big terrorist. We have no knowledge of it. For the past five decades, there has been no case against anyone from our family," Azad Shakil, brother of Muzammil, told PTI at his Pulwama residence.
Shakil said his family, who are farmers by occupation, have been targeted by stone-pelters in the past for being nationalists. "We are completely Indians and we have taken stones for India. You can verify it from anyone in the village," he said.
Asked about his brother, who has been arrested, Shakil said he was a "good person". "You can ask around about him. There are allegations about his involvement in terror activities but we have not been allowed to meet him so far," he added.
Shakil said his brother had come home to attend his sister's wedding which was scheduled to take place on Sunday but has now been cancelled. The accused doctor earlier visited Kashmir when his father had undergone a surgical procedure, Shakil said.
