CJP claims founder Abhijeet Dipke picked up by police

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das on Monday claimed that the party's founder, Abhijeet Dipke, had been taken into custody by police during the protest march in the national capital.

In a post on X, Das wrote, "DIPKE HAS BEEN PICKED UP BY THE POLICE! WE REQUEST ALL MPs TO IMMEDIATELY STAND IN SUPPORT OF THE STUDENTS ON THE STREETS!"

The party later issued a separate statement confirming the claim through its official X handle, saying, "CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke has been picked up by the Police from Jantar Mantar."

Parliament gates briefly shut as protesters near complex

Heightened security measures were put in place around the Parliament complex on Monday after protesters marching towards the area gathered in large numbers nearby, prompting authorities to briefly close some of the entry gates, officials said.

Tense scenes were reported near the Constitution Club, where security personnel used batons and tear gas to disperse demonstrators. Officials also said mild force was used to push back protesters near the Reserve Bank of India, close to Parliament, where at least seven Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) supporters were detained.

The temporary closure of a few Parliament gates also drew attention inside the House. When proceedings resumed at 2 pm, an MP claimed that some members had been prevented from entering the complex. Presiding officer Jagdambika Pal responded that all Members of Parliament were being allowed access.

Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned multiple times during the opening day of the Monsoon Session as Opposition members protested over the alleged NEET paper leak and the reported Ram temple donation controversy.

Gujarat sees protests backing CJP's 'Sansad Chalo' march

Demonstrations in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and activist Sonam Wangchuk were held across several Gujarat cities on Monday as the organisation's "Sansad Chalo" march unfolded in New Delhi over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks.

In Ahmedabad, police detained several people after they assembled at Law Garden without prior permission for the protest, according to officials.

Similar demonstrations took place in Surat, Junagadh and Bhavnagar, where participants raised slogans against the Centre and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Many wore CJP-themed T-shirts, carried banners backing Wangchuk and his hunger strike, and some held copies of the Constitution.

As police escorted protesters away in Ahmedabad, one demonstrator said, "While rapists are roaming scot free, students like us are being jailed."

In Surat, protesters gathered outside the collectorate. The protests coincided with the CJP's march in Delhi, where thousands assembled at Jantar Mantar despite heavy rain and heightened security across the capital.

Nagpur backs Wangchuk, CJP; demands Pradhan's resignation

Hundreds of students, youth and senior citizens staged an agitation in Nagpur on Monday in support of activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach Janta Party's protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

Chanting anti-government slogans over alleged exam paper leaks, angry demonstrators, including students and senior citizens, gathered at Samvidhan Square and vowed to press ahead with their agitation until the education minister steps down. Protesters expressed outrage over the forcible removal of Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar in the national capital and the lathi-charge on students during their march to Parliament.

Holding placards, banners and photos of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, demonstrators gathered at the site amid heavy police deployment. One of the young demonstrators said that their agitation will continue till the education minister resigns. Earlier in the day, thousands gathered near Parliament Street in Delhi and tried to march towards Parliament to demand accountability over alleged examination irregularities and the resignation of Pradhan, braving security forces' batons. Kharge slams Centre over student lathi-charge, Ram Temple row

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday criticised the Centre over the reported police action against student protesters, describing it as an assault on democratic principles.

Addressing reporters in New Delhi, the Congress president said, "Lathi-charge on students is an attack on democracy," while accusing the government of failing to uphold democratic values. He also launched a political attack on the ruling dispensation, adding, "This government is not capable of staying in power."

Kharge further sought accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over allegations surrounding the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Referring to the reported donation controversy linked to the Ayodhya Ram Temple, he said, "We have also raised the issue of theft of donations (at Ayodhya Ram Temple). Modi sahib should take responsibility because he is the one who created the Trust."

His remarks came as the Opposition intensified its criticism of the government on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
