Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri makes his X account private amid trolling after ceasefire
The online abuse began after Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement on Saturday night, triggering political backlash over the government’s handling of the situation
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has made his X (formerly Twitter) account private after facing intense online abuse and doxxing following India’s agreement with Pakistan to stop military actions.
The online abuse began after Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement on Saturday night, triggering political backlash over the government’s handling of the situation.
Daughters on target
As per media reports, a section of social media users targeted Misri and even his daughters with abusive language and personal attacks.

Some of the abusive comments directed at Misri labelled him a “traitor”, accusing him of “selling the country”. The online attacks included strong language and personal insults, with many criticising him for the ceasefire agreement that India reached with Pakistan.
His family was also subjected to vile abuse, with particularly offensive remarks directed at his daughter, who has no involvement in his official duties.
Some users, however, condemned the abuse, criticising the personal nature of the attacks and the targeting of Misri’s family. They called for respectful discourse and denounced the doxxing and vitriol.
Misri finds support
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi came to his defence, stating that civil servants should not be held accountable for political leadership's decisions.
“Mr Vikram Misri is a decent and honest, hard-working diplomat who works tirelessly for our nation. Our civil servants operate under the executive branch – this must be remembered. They shouldn't be blamed for decisions taken by the executive or any political leadership,” Owaisi said.
Navdeep Suri, India’s former ambassador to UAE, also tweeted, “It is absolutely disgusting to see the trolls target Foreign Secretary @VikramMisri and his family. He has been a picture of professionalism - calm, composed, measured and articulate. But that’s not enough for the bloodlust of a section of our society. Shameful!”

Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot also posted on X, “I condemn the social media trolling directed at the family of the Foreign Secretary @VikramMisri. It’s unacceptable to target our professional diplomats and civil servants — those who work dedicatedly to serve the nation.”
Several users have demanded action against those who doxxed and abused the foreign secretary and his daughter, including sharing her mobile number and making abusive remarks.
