IRCTC beta website launched with faster ticket booking, passengers can test new features

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has opened access to the beta version of its redesigned ticket booking website, allowing passengers to experience the upgraded platform before it becomes available to the public.

Users can visit the beta portal through the existing IRCTC website and share their suggestions, which will be considered before the final version is rolled out.

Beta site goes live

The launch follows Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's earlier announcement that the revamped IRCTC website would be introduced by Wednesday (July 15). The beta release is part of a larger digital upgrade planned by the Railways.

Along with the revamped website, a modern Passenger Reservation System (PRS) is also in the pipeline and is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.

Focus on faster booking

According to the Ministry of Railways, the redesign is centred on making ticket booking faster and more convenient instead of introducing a completely new set of features. The updated interface adopts a cleaner look, cuts down visual clutter and simplifies the booking journey so passengers can complete reservations with fewer clicks.

One of the key improvements is the removal of several elements that often slowed users down during bookings. Captchas, pop-up windows and flashing graphics have been reduced, helping create a smoother experience, especially during periods of heavy demand when tickets are booked within minutes, reported Money Control.

Simplified user interface

The beta portal now brings seat availability for every travel class onto a single page. Instead of switching between different filters or moving back and forth across multiple screens, passengers can compare available options in one place before making a booking.

IRCTC has also shortened the checkout process by eliminating unnecessary booking steps. The streamlined flow is expected to save valuable time during Tatkal bookings, where faster transactions can make a significant difference.

Another update is aimed at frequent travellers. The redesigned website allows passengers to use saved traveller information for future bookings, removing the need to enter the same passenger details every time a reservation is made.

Feedback before rollout

The beta version has been released mainly to collect feedback before the nationwide rollout. Railways said the suggestions received from users during this testing phase will help improve the platform and address any issues before it replaces the existing IRCTC website.

Passengers can explore the new portal by selecting the beta website option on the homepage of the current IRCTC website or by visiting https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/.

IRCTC processes an average of nearly 14.5 lakh train ticket bookings every day, making it one of the country's busiest online ticketing platforms.

Once the redesigned website is integrated with the upcoming Passenger Reservation System, the combined upgrades are expected to deliver better performance, improved scalability and a smoother ticket booking experience.
