Three people were arrested after an IT employee was kidnapped and assaulted on August 24; actress gets anticipatory bail
Three people have been arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of an IT employee near Ernakulam North Bridge in Kochi, Kerala.
According to reports, a case has been registered by the Ernakulam police based on a complaint filed by a techie residing in Aluva. The complaint said that the victim was kidnapped and beaten, and police have indicated that actress Lakshmi Menon was part of the group involved in the incident, said to have taken place on the night of August 24. Later in the day, the actress was granted anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court.
The incident
An altercation broke out at the Velocity Bar, on Banerji Road in Kochi, between two groups of youngsters on Sunday night, where actress Lakshmi was present with three friends.
Police sources said the other group comprised IT professionals. The dispute reportedly began after one of Lakshmi’s friends struck up a conversation with a woman colleague of the IT group, a foreign national from Thailand, which soon escalated into heated exchanges. The argument spilled outside, where a member of the IT group smashed a beer bottle on the ground.
Matters took a violent turn when Lakshmi and her friends allegedly chased down one of the IT men, forced him into their car and drove away. Lakshmi is said to have got down at Aluva, while her friends took the man further to Vedimara, where he was allegedly assaulted.

Three individuals — Midhun, Aneesh, and Sona Mol — have been arrested. Now, Lakshmi, a native of Tripunithura, has not yet been apprehended by the police.
Leaked video
Adding to the controversy, Lakshmi’s friend Sona has filed a complaint against the other group. A leaked video has also surfaced showing Lakshmi and Sona confronting one of the men in a car on the main road. The clip shows them blocking the vehicle, approaching the driver’s side window, and engaging in a heated exchange.
Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident, naming Lakshmi among the accused. Officers said they are looking for her but have not yet traced her to her residence. She has not been arrested so far.
