Urges supporters to maintain discipline and ensure that the protest remains peaceful; organisers claim police nod granted for rally
As the digital outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) prepares to hold a protest rally at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, the Delhi Police said it has not received any request from the organisation to hold the gathering. But in a social media post in the morning, the organisers said that police permission had been granted.
Despite the absence of a formal application, more than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across New Delhi as a precautionary measure, officials said. "We will examine their request if and when they seek permission," a senior police officer said.
According to police sources, authorities became aware of the proposed protest largely through social media posts and messages circulating online. The police have not received any official communication from the outfit led by Abhijeet Dipke, they added. Dipke had called on supporters and students to join his protest, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination-related lapses.

Officials said the force is closely monitoring developments and has begun preliminary security preparations in anticipation of the gathering.
Earlier on Friday, senior Delhi Police officers held a high-level review meeting to assess the situation and review security arrangements ahead of the proposed protest. All district units have been placed on standby, and further decisions will be taken based on intelligence inputs and the evolving ground situation, sources said.
Describing the situation as "very dynamic", police officers said assessments were being carried out at multiple levels to ensure preparedness for any eventuality.
Police sources said they learnt about the proposed protest primarily through social media posts and messages circulating online, and added that they have yet to receive any formal communication from the Abhijeet Dipke-led outfit. Delhi Police generally does not permit demonstrations without prior approval and the necessary permissions. Officials said it would be premature to comment on any specific action at this stage.
Sources said intelligence agencies are also examining reports suggesting possible backing for the proposed protest from certain political groups. Several political leaders are under scrutiny as part of the assessment process, they added.
Police said they are prepared to deploy personnel in sensitive areas, if required, to maintain law and order in the national capital. Further developments will be reviewed as the situation unfolds. Dipke had called on supporters and students to join his protest in Jantar Mantar on June 6, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination-related lapses.
Dipke said he would fly back from the US to lead the protest. Education reformer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk also said he would join the protest if Pradhan does not step down by June 5.
Originally launched as a satirical response to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant's remarks, referring to certain individuals as "cockroaches" and "parasites" during a court hearing last month, CJP has since taken the shape of an organised campaign, with significant followers online.

Security beefed up across Delhi; barricades at airport
Security was intensified across Delhi on Saturday, with police deploying additional personnel at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, border entry points, and other sensitive locations ahead of a proposed protest call by the digital outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), officials said.
More than 1,000 police personnel have been earmarked for deployment across the New Delhi district and other strategic locations as part of preventive security measures, sources said.
Security arrangements have been strengthened at the IGI Airport, major railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, and border points connecting Delhi with neighbouring states.
Police teams have also been deployed at key intersections, marketplaces, and other sensitive locations to maintain law and order, they said.
Multiple layers of barricades have been put up outside the international airport precinct as part of heightened security measures, while vehicle-checking drives have been intensified at border points and on major routes leading to central Delhi, officials said.
As part of these arrangements, heavy deployment of police personnel was witnessed at the Delhi airport and adjoining areas on Friday. Senior officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Vichitra Veer, briefed field staff and reviewed security arrangements.
According to police sources, senior officers reviewed the security situation during a high-level meeting on Friday and directed field units to remain vigilant. District police units have been asked to keep adequate reserve forces on standby and closely monitor developments.
The force is also coordinating with intelligence agencies and other security stakeholders to assess the situation and ensure preparedness, officials said.
Police maintained that adequate arrangements were in place to ensure public safety and smooth movement of commuters while keeping a close watch on any activity that could affect law and order in the city.

Dipke's parents incommunicado; friends worried
Ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)'s proposed protest in Delhi on June 6, party founder Abhijeet Dipke's friends and acquaintances here feel the agitation called by him is for a serious cause and it should not go off track.
They also want the government to cooperate with the protesters.
Dipke, who hails from Santuk Pimpri village in Hingoli district of Maharashtra, has been studying in Boston in the US where he just finished a master's course in public relations.
Earlier this week, Dipke announced that he would return to India from Boston on June 6 to launch a peaceful protest seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over examination-related lapses.
In a video, Dipke alleged that exam-related controversies and disruptions had left students anxious, and demanded accountability from the government The CJP, a youth-driven social media movement founded by Dipke, has gained traction since its launch last month, with many public figures subscribing to it.
Talking about Dipke's proposed agitation, his friend Usman Shaikh from Santuk Pimpri village said he wants the protest to pass off peacefully.
''Although Abhijeet did not live in the village much, we used to spend time together whenever he came here during vacations. He has called for an agitation for a cause. As a friend, I expect that the agitation should go off peacefully and the government should also co-operate," he told PTI.
Vijay Puri, sarpanch of Santuk Pimpri village and a relative of Dipke, said the agitation is undertaken for the issues that have affected the people nationwide.
"He (Dipke) launched a movement as a reaction to a statement. As far as the agitation is concerned, the government should co-operate with the protesters and the latter should also follow the rules and regulations," he said.
When asked if he thinks that Abhijit should join politics, the sarpanch said, ''The issue that he has raised and the movement that he has started is an expression of his anger. Whether he speaks about or criticises any political party is a different matter." "The issue he is speaking about now is of national importance. The government should give protection to him. The participants should also ensure that the protest does not go out of track," Puri said.
Dipke's parents incommunicado
Dipke's parents currently reside in a CIDCO area located under the MIDC Waluj police station limits of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Despite attempts, no contact could be established with his father Bhagwan Dipke.
When asked about the security at Dipke's residene, in-charge of the MIDC Waluj police station inspector Rameshwar Gade said, "Earlier, we had posted one guard outside their house. But now we have stepped up the security. We have deployed 10 police personnel along with an officer from today. We will take a review of the situation and take an appropriate decision. At present, his family is not staying there."
