Mallikarjun Kharge hospitalised in Bengaluru, condition stable, says son

Congress President under medical care in Bengaluru; party says condition stable as preparations continue for October 7 Kohima event


Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has been hospitalised in Bengaluru for a planned procedure as doctors advised him to undergo a pacemaker implantation, said his son and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Wednesday (October 1).

Priyank, in a social media post, further revealed that Kharge’s condition is stable and he is doing well.

"Sri Kharge was advised pacemaker to be implanted and is admitted to the hospital for the planned procedure. He is stable and doing well. Grateful to all of you for your concern and wishes," Priyank Kharge said in a post on 'X'.

The 83-year-old leader was admitted to M S Ramaiah Hospital on Tuesday, and doctors are examining his condition, reported PTI, quoting Congress sources.

Siddaramaiah says 'Kharge is fine'

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha at the Hospital. Speaking to reporters after meeting Kharge, the Chief Minister told reporters that the Congress president had complained of uneasiness and hence was admitted to the hospital.

Siddaramaiah also said that there was nothing to worry about Kharge’s condition, as he was normal and would be discharged on Thursday.

"He (Kharge) had some uneasiness, so he came to the hospital for a checkup. He is alright. He will be discharged tomorrow. He is speaking. He is okay and normal," Siddaramaiah told reporters after meeting Kharge.

"Siddaramaiah today met AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, who is undergoing treatment at M S Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru, and inquired about his health. He wished him a speedy recovery," the Chief Minister's office said in a statement.

Some reports claimed Kharge had fever

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Congress president was hospitalised as he developed a fever.

"The leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha was taken to the hospital on Tuesday as he developed a fever and complained of leg pain. He is fine, nothing to worry about. Doctors are monitoring," a Congress leader told PTI.

On September 24, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge participated in an extended session of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Patna, Bihar. Days later, on September 29, party leaders announced that Kharge would headline a major public rally in Kohima, Nagaland, scheduled for October 7.
