Mayawati urges Centre, States to fast-track govt recruitment, tackle unemployment
BSP chief calls for time-bound hiring free from corruption and paper leaks, says at least one govt job per family could provide security to millions, especially SCs, STs, and OBCs
Lucknow, Aug 10 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday urged the Centre and state governments to immediately begin time-bound recruitment for vacant government posts and take effective steps to address unemployment and inflation.
In a post on X, Mayawati said that during BSP’s rule in Uttar Pradesh, around 2.25 lakh new government posts were created in the police and Panchayati Raj departments, and a freeze on recruitment was lifted, leading to the appointment of several lakh people from different sections of society.
She alleged that all state governments, especially UP, Uttarakhand and Punjab, had remained largely "indifferent and negligent" towards inflation, extreme poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, poor healthcare, backwardness, migration, women's safety, paper leaks and corruption.
Referring to a 36-day agitation led by the Cockroach Janata Party at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, Mayawati said unemployment and an uncertain future had become issues of national importance and demanded that governments immediately address the concerns of the poor, workers, youth and women.
"Government jobs need special attention," she said, calling for an end to the sale of national assets to private hands and immediate, corruption- and paper-leak-free recruitment in all government departments.
Mayawati said providing at least one government job in a family could directly benefit lakhs of families and provide greater security to SCs, STs and OBCs, whom she claimed had been deprived of the benefits of reservation to a considerable extent.
She also appealed to governments to abandon a profit-oriented approach and implement the Constitution's "humanitarian and welfare-oriented" principles, saying that providing work to every hand was in the larger national and public interest.
The BSP supremo further called for an end to the continuing deadlock in Parliament over issues raised by students and unemployed youths protesting at Jantar Mantar, saying that there should be adequate debate and discussion before government bills are passed into law. PTI
