No discussion on Karnataka CM change, says Congress after big meeting
Recently, there has been speculation that Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar may replace Siddaramaiah
Amid speculations over a change in Karnataka Chief Minister, the Congress on Tuesday (May 26) clarified that there was no discussion on a leadership change.
After a marathon meeting in Delhi between Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his deputy DK Shivakumar, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other leaders, the party announced that the discussion focused solely on the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls and not on a leadership change in Karnataka.
Recently, there has been speculation that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar may replace Siddaramaiah.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal said discussions were only on Rajya Sabha and MLC elections.
"Today we had a detailed meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji and LoP Rahul Gandhi ji, of course, CM Siddaramaiah ji, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar ji, General Secretary in charge of Karnataka and myself be part of the discussion. Today, the entire discussion was concentrated only on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and council elections of Karnataka," Venugopal said.
"Whatever speculation you people are doing, that is only speculation. No reality at all. Today we discussed about the Rajya Sabha seats and the council seats of Karnataka. The candidates of Rajya Sabha and Council seats of Karnataka will be announced along with the other seats like Chhattisgarh, like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand, like these states. That's all. This is what we have decided today, nothing else was discussed today," he added.
