Operation Sindoor: Congress leader Rashid Alvi calls it ‘bare minimum’

Alvi asked whether "every single terrorist was killed". Earlier, he had termed Modi government’s decision to ban all imports from Pakistan as "cosmetic step"

While the Congress party has been unanimous in appreciating the Indian military for 'Operation Sindoor', senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi has triggered a controversy by saying that the strikes on nine terror targets were the “bare minimum”, and asked if “every single terrorist was killed in the attacks”.

Rashid Alvi told reporters, “A much better reply needs to be given. This is the bare minimum. Our forces did what the government of India told them to do, but the question again arises. Was every single terrorist killed? Won’t there be another Pahalgam? PM Modi has said that the remaining land of terrorists will be destroyed. If that has happened, then it is good.”

In response, a senior adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Kanchan Gupta, posted on X, “Incorrigible Congress asks for proof of airstrikes once again. Refuses to believe India’s defence forces on Operation Sindoor.”

Last week, another Congress leader and former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Channi had asked for proof of the surgical strike carried out against Pakistan after the Uri attack in 2016.

‘Cosmetic step’

Alvi also last week termed as a “cosmetic step” the Indian government’s decision to ban all direct and indirect imports from Pakistan.

“All these are cosmetic steps, but we are not opposing it. In fact, closing down exports and imports hurts us more,” Rashid Alvi told news agency ANI.
