Pahalgam terror attack: Rahul leads Congress' candle march to pay homage to victims
The march was carried out from the party's headquarters at 24, Akbar Road to Tees January Marg in Lutyen's Delhi, and culminated at the Birla House
New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday joined Congress leaders and workers in the party's candle march to pay homage to the Pahalgam terror attack victims.
The march was carried out from party's headquarters at 24, Akbar Road to Tees January Marg in Lutyen's Delhi, and culminated at the Birla House where Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead in 1948. Gandhi was accompanied by senior party leaders KC Venugopal and Ajay Maken and leaders of Delhi Congress.
Venugopal, Congress general secretary, Organisation, alleged that the Delhi Police created confusion by not allowing the march to Mahatma Gandhi Smriti which exposed the BJP's commitment to the ideas of unity.
"The state-sponsored disruption of a peaceful candlelight march being taken out for a cause that the entire country is united for is completely unheard of and downright shameful.
"LOP Sh. Rahul Gandhi ji was taking out a march from AICC to Mahatma Gandhi Smriti, but the Delhi Police objected to it and created complete chaos and confusion at the venue. This conduct of the Delhi Police exposes the BJP’s hollow commitment to ideas of unity and solidarity during crisis," Venugopal said in a post on X.
There was no comment from Delhi Police on the allegation at the time of filing this report.
Using the slogan, "Leave Hatred, Unite India", Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav shared pictures of the march.
"We are united against terrorism, hatred will lose and love will win," he said.
"The government hasn't done anything for the last 10 years. Even today, all they care about is another election in Bihar," said Sunita, one of the marchers.
Twenty-six people, mostly tourists from different parts of the country, were shot dead by the terrorists in Baisaran near Pahalgam in a terror attack on Tuesday. PTI
