Parliament debate: Jaishankar denies Trump’s claim of direct talks with Modi
There was overwhelming support for India globally, including from members of Quad, BRICS, Central Asian countries, who upheld India's right to respond, says EAM
India's military action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack marked a "new normal" in combatting cross-border terrorism with a five-point approach that included a firm response to terror acts, not yielding to nuclear blackmail and that blood and water cannot flow together, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28).
After a week of logjam, the Monsoon Session of Parliament saw a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and the Centre’s Operation Sindoor today. Both Houses were repeatedly adjourned amid opposition protests on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, delaying the start of the discussion on Operation Sindoor.
Earlier today, there were fiery speeches by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and DMK MP Kanimozhi are among those set to speak in Parliament tomorrow.
Govt nod to marathon debate
After the first week of session ended up a virtual washout due to opposition protests on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on July 25 that the Opposition had agreed to the start of a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Everyone wants to know where we had intelligence lapse: Priyanka Chaturvedi
“Everyone wants to know where we had the intelligence lapse. Why didn't we become more alert after Asim Munir's speech, which occurred right before the Pahalgam attack? People were killed after asking about their religion. They wanted polarisation in India, but the people of India acted smartly and united against this propaganda..." said Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi ahead of the discussion on Operation Sindoor.
"We also put the Indus Water Treaty on abeyance. The CDS said that Operation Sindoor is still in operation mode. We banned their channels, their influencer accounts, put a ban on their cricketers who were using foul language and objectionable cartoons about Operation Sindoor, and we banned trade and talks with them. We sent multiparty delegations out in the world, but those four terrorists are still at large. We haven't found them yet. Most importantly, they are trying to normalise the relationship. If India and Pakistan play a cricket match against each other anywhere in the world, it will be against the interests of the country..." she added.
