In Delhi, popular shopping hubs like Connaught Place, Sadar Bazar and Chandni Chowk were among the more than 900 markets that were closed due to 'Delhi Bandh'


Protests were held across the country on Friday (April 25) to condemn the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

In Delhi, popular shopping hubs like Connaught Place, Sadar Bazar and Chandni Chowk were among the more than 900 markets that wore a deserted look on Friday as traders observed a 'Delhi Bandh' to protest against the Pahalgam terror attack.

Muslims protest

Various merchant associations from sectors such as textiles, spices, utensils, and bullion also kept their shutters down.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) held a 'Tiranga March' at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi in a tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Scores of party workers and supporters, including IYC's National President Uday Bhanu Chib and National Media in-charge Varun Pandey, took out the March from Jantar Mantar Square to Jantar Mantar – a few hundred metres distance.

People from the Muslim community wore black bands during Friday prayers in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district.

In Hyderabad, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi distributed black armbands at a mosque before the Friday prayers, urging people to wear them as a mark of protest against the Pahalgam terror attack.

Prominent Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband on Friday termed the terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam an "act against humanity".

'Havan' for peace

In Jammu, BJP’s senior leaders and workers performed a 'havan' for the peace of departed souls, at the party office.

In Dehradun, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad supporters protested.

Meanwhile, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Kashmir on Friday to review the situation.

The officials said Army commander, Northern Command, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, accompanied the Army Chief.

The Chief of Armed Staff (COAS) would carry out a comprehensive review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, while top Army commanders will brief him about the security situation and steps taken in the aftermath of Tuesday's attack, they said.

The Army chief's visit comes less than 24 hours after Pakistan resorted to small arms firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, after India announced the closure of the Attari border for all movement as part of heightened security measures, Indian nationals returned from Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah border near Amritsar.
