PM Modi attends Hazarika birth centenary event in Assam after Manipur visit

PM Modi lays foundation of development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore in Manipur on his first visit to the state since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his first visit to Manipur in more than two years since deadly ethnic violence broke out in May 2023, laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore at Churachandpur on Saturday (September 13).

He also interacted with internally displaced people in Churachandpur and is scheduled to do so in Imphal as well. He is also supposed to inaugurate various projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore at Imphal and address a public function.

In view of Modi's visit, security has been tightened in Imphal and Churachandpur district headquarters town.

Both state and central forces' personnel were deployed in large numbers in and around the nearly 237-acre Kangla Fort in Imphal and the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, the venues of the PM's rallies.

Earlier, Modi inaugurated Mizoram's first railway line and flagged off the state's maiden Rajdhani Express connecting Aizawl with Delhi. The Rs 8,070-crore Bairabi-Sairang railway line, considered one of the most challenging in Indian Railways' history, was sanctioned in 2008-09 and construction began in 2015.

Modi will thereafter visit Assam and participate in the celebrations of the 100th birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

    PM Modi slams terrorism, praises Assam's culture

     Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised India's firm stance against terrorism and celebrated the cultural heritage of Assam. The remarks were made during a significant event aimed at fostering national pride and promoting regional culture.

    Speaking on India's response to terrorist activities, Modi stated, "The country gave such a reply to Pakistan's terrorist designs that the echo of India's strength has reached the whole world. We have shown that India's enemy will not be safe in any corner. New India will not compromise on its security and self-respect at any cost." 

    Modi also praised the cultural diversity of Assam, describing it as extraordinary. He noted, "Every aspect of Assam's culture is amazing, extraordinary, and that is why I used to say many times that the day is not far when the children of the country will read A for Assam. The culture here is a source of immense possibilities."

    Modi reaches Guwahati

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Guwahati on a two-day visit to Assam and will attend a special tribute meeting for legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika.
    Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 19,000 crore on Sunday.
    Modi was received at the Lokpriya Gopinath International Airport by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and his cabinet colleagues.
    The PM arrived in Assam from Manipur, where he visited Churachandpur and Imphal.
    He drove straight to the venue of the Bhupen Hazarika centenary celebrations at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara area in Guwahati.
    The PM will spend the night at the State Guest House in Guwahati. On Sunday, he will visit Mangaldoi in Darrang district and Numaligarh refinery in Golaghat, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth over Rs 19,000 crore and address public meetings at both places.
    The PM will leave for Kolkata from the Jorhat airport on Sunday.

    PM to pass through ‘neem corridor’ during visit to Assam’s Golaghat on Sep 14

    A special corridor lined with Neem saplings has been readied in Numaligarh in Assam’s Golaghat district through which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel during his visit on Sunday.

    Modi will pass through the 2.6-km ‘PM Neem Corridor’ on his trip to this upper Assam district, during which he will visit the Numaligarh Refinery and inaugurate an over Rs 5,000-crore bamboo-based ethanol plant.

    He will also lay the foundation stone for the Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit, which has a capacity to produce 360 KTPA propylene.

    The PM will also address a public rally at the Numaligarh Tanker Stand later on Sunday, the second day of his two-day visit to the state.
