
PM Modi attends Hazarika birth centenary event in Assam after Manipur visit
PM Modi lays foundation of development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore in Manipur on his first visit to the state since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his first visit to Manipur in more than two years since deadly ethnic violence broke out in May 2023, laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore at Churachandpur on Saturday (September 13).
He also interacted with internally displaced people in Churachandpur and is scheduled to do so in Imphal as well. He is also supposed to inaugurate various projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore at Imphal and address a public function.

In view of Modi's visit, security has been tightened in Imphal and Churachandpur district headquarters town.
Both state and central forces' personnel were deployed in large numbers in and around the nearly 237-acre Kangla Fort in Imphal and the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, the venues of the PM's rallies.

Earlier, Modi inaugurated Mizoram's first railway line and flagged off the state's maiden Rajdhani Express connecting Aizawl with Delhi. The Rs 8,070-crore Bairabi-Sairang railway line, considered one of the most challenging in Indian Railways' history, was sanctioned in 2008-09 and construction began in 2015.
Modi will thereafter visit Assam and participate in the celebrations of the 100th birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

PM Modi announces financial package for Manipur
"A special package of Rs 3,000 crore has also been granted. To help the displaced, Rs 500 crore has also been given... Today, the development of every tribal community is a priority for our country. For the first time, the 'Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan' (DAJGUA) is being implemented for the development of tribal areas.... PM Modi urges peace, pledges support for Manipur
Urging all organisations to take the path of peace and progress, the Prime Minister said, adding that the Government was leaving no stones unturned to restore normalcy in Manipur.
"I would appeal to all organisations to move forward on the path of peace and fulfil their dreams. Today, I promise you that I am with you, the Government of India is with you, and the people of Manipur. The Government of India is making every possible effort to bring life back on track in Manipur. For families who have lost their homes, our government is helping to build 7,000 new houses,” he added.

PM Modi pledges peace and prosperity for Manipur
“We want to make Manipur symbol of peace and prosperity, I am with people of this state,” the PM said. He said that Manipur was surging ahead along with the country adding that currently over 3.5 lakh houses have tap water connection.
“We are going to become the world's third-largest economy very soon... There was a time when decisions made in Delhi took decades to reach here. Today, our Churachandpur, our Manipur, are progressing together with the rest of the nation. Just as we announced the construction of pucca houses for the poor across the country, Manipur too has benefited. Nearly 60,000 houses have already been built here, giving thousands of families a life of dignity and security,” said Modi.
“ We have started a plan to build permanent houses for the poor across the country. Thousands of families in Manipur have also benefited from this. In the past years, more than 15 crore countrymen have received the facility of water from taps. In Manipur, until 7-8 years ago, water came through pipes in only 25-30 thousand houses. Today, more than 3.5 lakh houses here are receiving the facility of water from taps,” he added.

PM Modi says govt focused on Manipur's connectivity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the border state has always faced connectivity issues, adding that since 2014, he has focused on improving Manipur’s connectivity.
"Manipur is a border state, and connectivity here has always been a major challenge. I fully understand the difficulties you have faced due to the lack of good roads. That is why, since 2014, I have focused strongly on continuously improving Manipur’s connectivity, and for this, the Government of India has worked on two levels. First, we increase the budget for roads and railways in Manipur. Second, we put efforts to connect villages with roads... In the last few years, Rs 3,700 crores were spent on the National Highways in Manipur. Rs 8,700 crores are being spent on the work on new highways,” the PM said.
