
‘Anchored in SURE’: 23 parties, Kapil Sibal write to CJI on role of SIR
Letter follows June 8 meeting by INDIA Bloc parties where it was also decided to write to CJI on SIR, ‘vote loot’ and ‘election theft’
Twenty-three political parties along with an Independent MP on Tuesday (June 30) sent a joint letter to Chief Justice Surya Kant on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the role of the Election Commission and other election-related issues.
‘Firmly anchored in SURE’
Announcing the move in a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the Opposition parties are firmly anchored in "SURE' Solidarity, Unity and REsistance".

“21 political parties plus one Independent attended the INDIA janbandhan meeting on June 8, 2026 where a decision was taken to address a joint letter to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India on the SIR process of the Election Commission of India and other election-related issues," Ramesh said on X. He added that a letter was sent to the CJI according to decisions taken at the meeting.

AAP, DMK also signatories
Besides 23 political parties, Independent MP Kapil Sibal has also signed the letter.
The letter has also been signed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the DMK, which are not part of INDIA Bloc.

"Good going from INDIA. And yes, @AamAadmiParty @arivalayam DMK also signed the joint letter to CJI," TMC’s leader Derek O Brien said on X.
INDIA Bloc’s June 8 meeting
The letter also talks about the role of the EC, sources said.
The Congress and other opposition parties have been questioning the EC over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The letter has been sent days after Opposition parties held a meeting and reached a consensus on five points.

Addressing a press conference on the same, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that 25 Opposition parties that attended the meeting agreed to send a letter to the CJI on SIR, “vote loot” and “election theft”.
Opposition members also agreed upon to demand the immediate resignation of Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over gross irregularities in the conduct of NEET and CBSE exams.
