TCS says no internal complaints in Nashik sexual harassment, conversion case

TCS says no complaints were filed internally in the Nashik harassment and conversion case, even as police arrest seven and more allegations surface

The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said that it has not received any complaints through its internal channels regarding allegations of sexual harassment or religious conversion. The company’s statement comes at a time when it’s in the eye of a storm following alleged religious conversion and sexual misconduct at its Nashik office.

Internal review and oversight panel

"A preliminary review of the systems and records pertaining to the Nashik unit indicates that we have not received any complaints of the nature that are being alleged on either our ethics or POSH (prevention of sexual harassment) channels," stated TCS.

The tech giant further stated that it has set up an oversight panel regarding its internal probe into the matter, which would be chaired by Keki Mistry, an independent director on the company board, as reported by NDTV.

Arrests and initial complaint

Police have arrested seven employees in connection with the case, among them six men and a woman identified as the HR head. Another employee, Nida Khan, is currently absconding.

The matter surfaced after a woman accused a colleague, Danish Sheikh, of entering into a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage in 2022, despite already being married at the time.

TCS had earlier suspended all employees linked to the sexual assault and alleged forced religious conversion case.

Allegations against Nida Khan

According to the police report, Nida Khan is the sister of Danish Sheikh. She is alleged to have made derogatory remarks about the complainant’s religion and to have pressured her to convert, the report stated, as reported by NDTV.

Investigators stated that Khan, along with another individual identified as Tausif Akhtar, withheld information from the complainant regarding Sheikh’s marital status.

As the investigation progressed, seven additional women approached the police, alleging that they had been subjected to mental and sexual harassment by senior colleagues, and that their complaints were not acted upon by the human resources department.

Timeline and ongoing probe

Police records indicate that the incidents under scrutiny span a period from February 2022 to March 2026.

On Friday, a Crime Branch team from Nashik travelled to Mumbra in Thane district in an effort to locate Khan. Officers also questioned her husband at their residence regarding her whereabouts.

Members of her family have said she is in Mumbai and is expecting her first child. She has moved a local court in Nashik seeking anticipatory bail, citing her medical condition as part of her plea.

Company clarification and response

In a statement, TCS clarified that Khan did not hold a managerial role within the company. She was employed as a process associate and was not involved in recruitment or any leadership functions.

The company reiterated that it had suspended all employees connected to the case, maintaining that it follows a zero-tolerance approach towards harassment and is cooperating with law enforcement authorities.

Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran described sexual harassment as "gravely concerning and anguishing", adding that an internal inquiry had been initiated to establish the facts and determine accountability.
