Viral video shows girl,15, apologising for remarks against PM Modi

A video of a girl accused of using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the student protest in New Delhi has gone viral on social media, showing her issuing a public apology for her remarks.

According to media reports, the girl, dressed in a striped T-shirt, is seen in the video standing with folded hands as she apologises for her remarks.

"I came under the influence of some people at the protest and said a lot of bad things against the Prime Minister," she says in the video as quoted by NDTV.

Apology goes viral

Her actual age has also come under scrutiny in the video. While the FIR states that she is 25 years old, she states in the clip that she is 15 years old. "I am only 15 years old. Whatever I did was not worthy of forgiveness. I have said a lot of bad things,” she said.

Describing her actions as her "first and last mistake", she said, "I apologise to the entire country. I am so ashamed. I can't even look at myself. Please forgive me."

Question on age

However, the report stated that the authenticity of the video could not be independently verified.

The case began on Wednesday (July 29) after a complaint was lodged at a Noida police station over her remarks. Noida Police registered a Zero FIR before transferring it to Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi.

According to the complainant, her comments insulted the dignity of the Prime Minister's office and had the potential to disturb public peace by creating disharmony.

PM calls for restraint

The apology video surfaced only hours after PM Modi shared an Instagram video urging restraint and forgiveness following abusive slogans raised against him during student protests.

In the video released on Friday night, he said that "abuses never solve anything" and asked society to guide those who had gone astray instead of punishing them.

He described those involved as "misguided" and rejected "anger or retaliation" as the answer.

Message of forgiveness

"Mistakes are made in childhood, and childhood also provides an opportunity to correct those mistakes. That is what being young is about," he said.

The Prime Minister also said, "I want to forgive them. I request society also to accept what I am saying. Abuses never solve anything. Let us guide those who have lost their way. Let us work together. Let us work for Bharat."
