Watch | Neha Bora profile: The JNU scholar who says hope is infectious

From a 23-day hunger strike to repeated detentions, the 29-year-old says protest is part of human nature. What keeps her returning to the streets?

Neha Bora, a 29-year-old doctoral student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), says hope is what keeps people on the streets.

“Hope is infectious and that is why it keeps spreading in this entire country. Fear is infectious, of course, but hope is also infectious,” Bora says.

Until this summer, few beyond campus politics knew her name. In July, she was among the activists on a 23-day hunger strike in Delhi over the alleged NEET paper leak, demanding then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

Today, apart from Cockroach Janata Party, or CJP, Neha Bora is the face of the youth protest that's demanding the rollback of the EC SIR process and the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
