A total of 129 FIRs lodged against agitators who took part in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests across Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Assam were quashed by the Supreme Court, invoking its extraordinary powers under Article 142 when the CJP was gearing up for another Parliament march.
However, the four states that approached the apex court in this regard are all BJP-ruled, and the FIRs were quashed as per the Centre’s own request. Moreover, as many as 2,873 individuals remain booked in a separate case for having serious criminal backgrounds.
