Nine people died, and 15 others were injured in a boiler blast at Vedanta Power Plant in the Sakti district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday (April 14). Police have launched a probe into the incident.
"Nine people died, and 15 were injured in a boiler blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Singhi Tarai area of Sakti district. The injured have been taken to the hospital in Raigarh,” said Sakti district SP Praful Thakur as quoted by ANI.
Probe ordered
Elaborating further, Raigarh SDM, Mahesh Sharma that a probe has been ordered in the incident.
"A heartbreaking incident has taken place at the Vedanta Power plant today in which some workers have been injured, and their treatment is underway. Our investigation is ongoing," he added.

According to a spokesperson from the power plant, the incident took place at the Singhitarai plant in the afternoon involving personnel from our sub-contractor, NGSL, which operates and maintains the plant.
He further stated that full cooperation was being extended to the injured, and plant officials were cooperating with local authorities.
Medical aid and ongoing investigation
“An unfortunate incident occurred at one of the boiler units at our Singhitarai plant on the afternoon of 14 April 2026, involving personnel from our sub-contractor, NGSL, which operates and maintains the unit. Our immediate priority is to ensure the best possible medical assistance and treatment for all those affected,” said the spokesperson.

“We are extending full support to the injured and are closely coordinating with medical teams and local authorities. We are in the process of ascertaining details, and a thorough investigation has been initiated in coordination with our partner and relevant authorities. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families of those affected during this difficult time,” he added.
CM Assures strict action
Reacting to the incident, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that a thorough investigation had been started into the incident, adding that whoever was found guilty would not be spared.
“The district administration is present at the scene, and relief and rescue operations are underway at a rapid pace. Necessary directives have been issued for the better treatment of the injured,” he said.
“A thorough and impartial investigation of the incident will be ensured. Whosoever is found guilty in this matter will face the strictest possible action,” added the CM in a post on X.
