Primary school recruitment case: ED summons Abhishek Banerjee on June 15

An ED team visited Banerjee's home and delivered the summons to his staff as he was not at home in Kolkata

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday (June 3) served fresh summons to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee in connection with the primary school recruitment irregularities case.

An ED team visited Banerjee's residence and delivered the summons to his staff as he was not at home in Kolkata. He has been asked to appear before the central agency at its CGO Complex office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on June 15.

Illegal laundering and recruitment scams

The ED is probing the role of Banerjee-linked Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd in the case. Investigators allege that the firm, where Banerjee previously served as a director and Chief Executive Officer, was used to launder illegal bribes collected by middlemen who promised teaching jobs during the school recruitment scam.

The agency has frozen assets worth crores of rupees and raided the company's offices as part of a broader money-laundering probe. Banerjee has firmly denied any wrongdoing and has faced questions in the past.

He has accused the central government of using its investigative agencies for political intimidation.

Just hours before the central agency team arrived at his residence, Banerjee deliberately bypassed a scheduled interrogation by the West Bengal CID regarding a separate case, citing health issues and requesting a 15-day extension. Also on Wednesday, Banerjee moved the Calcutta High Court to secure protection against coercive action by the state CID.
