Assam erupts in protest after 15-year-old found dead, face smashed, rod in private parts

A horrific incident has come to light from Assam’s Hailakandi district, where a 15-year-old girl has been allegedly raped, face smashed and rod inserted in her private parts in her residence.
The attack was so severe that the victim's body was left virtually unrecognisable to her family.

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday (August 1) night in the Aloichora area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Katlichera police station. The teenager and her family had gone to a relative's nearby home to attend a feast. Following a brief argument with a cousin, the girl decided to leave the gathering early and returned home alone.

Around 11pm, the family returned from the feast and discovered her body lying on the floor.

Police sources have indicated the extreme brutality of the crime. The victim's head and face had been heavily bludgeoned, and a rod had been inserted into her private parts.
While the family maintains that the teenager was sexually assaulted before being killed, law enforcement is taking a measured approach pending medical verification.
"The family claims she was sexually assaulted, but we are waiting for the post-mortem report before drawing any conclusions. We are investigating the matter thoroughly, and four persons are currently being questioned," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amitabh Sinha told the media.
SSP Sinha confirmed that a formal case has been registered. Currently, five individuals have been detained for questioning as investigators work to establish the motive and identify the perpetrators.
Public backlash and protests
The sheer brutality of the murder has triggered widespread anger in the locality.
Demanding swift justice and the immediate arrest of the culprits, residents blocked National Highway 6 (NH 6) in protest. Authorities are currently trying to manage the situation and assure the community of a rigorous investigation.
