Bihar coaching centre clash: Khan Sir named in FIR after firing allegations

CCTV footage and videos surfaced purportedly show that two private security guards employed by KGS had opened aerial fire during the clash

In a new development in the Bihar coaching centre vandalism case, the Patna Police has named popular educator Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, in an FIR linked to the violence at the Khan Global Studies (KGS) Institute earlier this week.

The development comes days after a group of 15-20 people allegedly vandalised the KGS premises on the night of June 2. The attackers reportedly damaged office property, tore down promotional posters and assaulted a security guard.

Following the incident, Khan Sir had claimed that people associated with a rival coaching institute were behind the attack and had even alleged that firing took place during the violence.

Twist in the case

However, the investigation took a dramatic turn after CCTV footage and videos surfaced purportedly showing that two private security guards employed by KGS had opened aerial fire during the clash.

The videos, which are yet to be verified, prompted police to detain the guards, identified as Pradeep and Taleshwar. Their weapons, reportedly licensed in Nagaland, have been seized for forensic examination.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma confirmed that Khan Sir has been named in the FIR and will be questioned as part of the investigation. However, police have not disclosed the specific charges against him.

False claims

The case had already led to the arrest of three individuals on June 3, including Roshan Anand, popularly known as Roshan Sir, who runs the rival coaching institute Gyan Bindu. Police alleged that the accused were involved in criminal conspiracy and rioting and produced them before a local court, which sent them to judicial custody.

The controversy escalated further after members of the rival institute held a press conference alleging that Khan Sir himself had orchestrated the incident. Adarsh, a representative of the group, claimed that police found no evidence supporting Khan Sir's allegation that multiple rounds of firing had taken place.

Displaying videos of the guards allegedly firing shots, he accused the educator of creating a false narrative to generate publicity, a charge Khan Sir has not publicly responded to.

Who is Khan Sir?

Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, is one of India's most recognisable educators and online teaching personalities. Based in Patna, he rose to national prominence through his unique teaching style that combines humour, simple language and relatable examples to explain complex topics.

He runs the Khan GS Research Centre and Khan Global Studies (KGS), institutions that provide coaching for examinations such as UPSC, SSC, Railways, Banking, Defence services and various state government recruitment tests.

Khan Sir also operates one of the country's most-followed educational YouTube channels, "Khan GS Research Centre".

Coaching institutes’ rivalry

According to reports, tensions between coaching institutes intensified after rival claims over the number of successful candidates in the recent Bihar Police constable recruitment examination. Khan Sir had earlier alleged that competing institutes were uncomfortable with the growing popularity of his low-cost coaching model.

A case has been registered at Kadamkuan police station, and investigations are continuing.
