Bihar swearing-in LIVE: Nitish takes oath for 10th time, 21 other ministers sworn in

Altogether, 22 ministers took oath, prominent among them being Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both of whom were deputy CMs in the previous government

JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar took oath as the chief minister of Bihar for a record 10th time at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan today (November 20).

Altogether, 22 ministers, including Nitish, took oath. Prominent among them were Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, the leader and deputy leader, respectively, of the BJP legislative party, both of whom were deputy CMs in the previous NDA government in the state.

None of the inductees were from Union minister Chirag Paswan's LJPRV and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha's RLM, which won 19 and four seats, respectively.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda and several other top leaders of NDA, besides the chief ministers of several NDA ruled states.

Kumar resigned as the Bihar CM on Wednesday and then staked claim before Governor Arif Mohammed Khan to form the new government.

Elaborate security arrangements were put in place, and over three lakh people attended the event.

    Bihar's double-engine govt will work with even more energy to realise PM Modi's vision: Amit Shah

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (November 20) extended greetings to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputies, and all ministers on taking oath, and said this double-engine government will work with even more energy to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    In a message posted on X, Shah expressed gratitude to the people of Bihar for expressing their faith in "the development and good governance" carried out by the NDA for the past 20 years.

    "Heartfelt best wishes to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary ji, Vijay Sinha ji, and all ministers of the Council of Ministers on taking the oath," he said.

    "This double-engine government will work with even more energy to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji's 'Developed Bihar' and to reach development works to all sections of society," Shah said.

    "The gathering today of lakhs of people from every corner of Bihar at Gandhi Maidan in Patna to bless the NDA government shows that this is the government of every single person in Bihar. Heartiest congratulations to all the people of Bihar," he said.

    Confident that new NDA govt in Bihar will accelerate State's progress: Jaishankar

    Union minister S Jaishankar on Thursday (November 20) extended congratulations to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after he was sworn in for a record 10th term, and asserted that he was confident that the new NDA government in the state will accelerate its progress and contribute to India's journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat.

    Kumar, 71, took oath on Thursday at a grand ceremony in Patna, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CMs of several NDA-ruled states and senior alliance leaders.

    "Hearty congratulations to @NitishKumar ji on taking oath again as Chief Minister of Bihar. Best wishes to Deputy CMs @samrat4bjp ji and @VijayKrSinhaBih ji and to all Ministers who have assumed office today. Confident that the new NDA Government will accelerate Bihar’s progress & contribute to our journey towards Viksit Bharat," the external affairs minister posted on X.

    Besides Kumar, 26 ministers were sworn in on the occasion - 14 from the BJP, 8 from JD(U), LJP(RV) 2, HAM 1, and RLM 1.

    They included Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both deputy CMs in the previous government, who have been elected as the BJP's leader and deputy leader, respectively, following the polls.
