Cab driver kidnaps homeless minor, murders her after rape in Delhi, arrested

She was sleeping on the pavement with her family members. A cab driver allegedly kidnapped her and took her to an isolated spot where he raped her.

After a few hours, the accused returned to the spot with the victim from where he had kidnapped her, seeking to drop her there.

But he fled from the spot after seeing police there and took her to a jungle where he strangled her to death. The brutal fate was met by an 11-year-old homeless girl in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area.

Kidnapped around 5am

Police said that the accused kidnapped the victim around 5 am on Monday (June 22) when she was sleeping with her parents on the footpath. Although the investigators are yet to ascertain the exact chronology of the crime, they said that it was suspected that the latter tried to drop her at the previous location after raping her.

As the probe gathered pace, investigators received a tip-off about a cab driver suspected of being involved in the crime, reported NDTV.

Accused identified

Acting on the lead, police tracked down and arrested the accused. He was identified as Bablu, 25, an app-based taxi driver.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to abducting the minor from a footpath near CDR Chowk in Mehrauli, police said.

According to investigators, he drove the girl towards Gurugram, where she was raped. Based on disclosures made during interrogation, police later traced and recovered the victim's body from the location indicated by the accused.

“We are not sure about the sequence of events. However, it is suspected that the accused later decided to drop the minor back to the Mehrauli area, but after seeing the police, he fled with her”, a senior police official said as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

Victim murdered in a jungle

Elaborating further, the official said that the victim’s parents informed police at 7 am. “The girl was alive, but he later took her to the forest area in Mehrauli and strangled her to death”, added the official.

The accused was arrested on Monday night after multiple police teams were deployed, and when he was spotted with the victim in CCTV footage scanned by investigators.

According to police, the victim’s body was found on the Faridabad Gurugram road. They also said the body has been sent for a post-mortem.
