Series of recent dowry-linked cases
In the past few days, multiple incidents linked to alleged dowry harassment and deaths have surfaced from different parts of the country.
On May 21, police arrested two more persons in connection with the death of a 24-year-old woman who allegedly fell from the third-floor terrace of her in-laws' residence. Earlier, police had taken her husband and father-in-law into custody from Greater Noida after the woman's family accused them of harassing her over dowry demands.
Acquittal in dowry death case
In a separate case, a Delhi court acquitted a man facing charges of dowry death and cruelty in connection with the 2015 suicide of his wife. The court cited insufficient and unreliable evidence, while observing that several key prosecution witnesses had turned hostile during the trial.
