Delhi SIR: Kejriwal, 4 family members get ‘unmapped’ notices

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and four members of his family have been served notices by the Delhi Election Commission as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The notices have been issued under the “Unmapped with Last SIR” category, under which electors whose details could not be matched with records from the previous SIR are required to undergo verification.

Kejriwal (57), his wife Sunita Kejriwal (60), his father Gobind Ram Kejriwal (87), his mother Gita Devi (77), and his 24-year-old son, Pulkit Kejriwal, have received the notices. The five members of the Kejriwal family are among 110 electors who have received notices in the specific part segment of Assembly Constituency 40, which covers the New Delhi constituency.

Kejriwal had criticised SIR

The notices come amid a politically-contentious electoral roll revision exercise in Delhi. Kejriwal, who has served as Delhi chief minister three times, had earlier questioned the SIR process after a large number of names were absent from the draft electoral roll.

On August 31, Kejriwal said that more than 47 lakh names were missing from the draft roll out of around 1.5 crore voters in Delhi. Taking a swipe at the Centre, he said the government need not be concerned about population growth as the SIR could potentially reduce the country's population from 140 crore to 50 crore.

67 per cent of electors' forms digitised

The SIR exercise in Delhi included door-to-door verification of electors. Enumeration forms covering around 67.18 per cent of Delhi's electors were received and digitised during the exercise, which began on June 30 and concluded on August 17.

The Election Commission is continuing the revision process, with notices under the “Unmapped with Last SIR” category forming part of the ongoing verification.
