MCD razes dangerous, unauthorised buildings; 213 demolitions since Sept 1
Enforcement drive intensified following September 6 collapse of building housing paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan, which killed seven people
New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday carried out a demolition drive against dangerous and unauthorised constructions across the national capital, including Gandhi Nagar and Mayur Vihar, as part of its drive against unauthorised and dangerous buildings, officials said.
In East Delhi's Shahdara district, the civic body carried out demolition action against an illegally constructed three-storey building in Dharampura under the Gandhi Nagar police station area, they said.
The demolition drive was also underway in Mayur Vihar Phase 2 in east Delhi as well as in parts of South Zone, including Satya Niketan, officials said.
The action comes a day after the MCD carried out 11 demolitions and sealed four properties across its 12 zones. With Sunday’s action, the civic body had carried out 213 demolitions and sealed 109 properties since September 1.
The enforcement drive was intensified following the September 6 collapse of a building housing a paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan, which killed seven people.
On Sunday, a four-storey building that suddenly tilted in Gandhi Nagar was vacated, and the MCD directed its owner to demolish the structure voluntarily. The civic body had said it would initiate action under applicable provisions if the owner failed to carry out the demolition.
The MCD has said action against dangerous and unauthorised buildings and violations of the Master Plan of Delhi and building bye-laws will continue across all 12 zones. PTI
