Terrorist hideout busted in J-K’s Poonch; 5 IEDs, wireless sets seized

The hideout was busted during a joint search operation by Army and special operations group of J-K Police at Suranthal in Marhote area of Surankote on Sunday


In a joint security operation on Monday (May 5), the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army busted a terrorist hideout in a forest area in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the recovery of five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two wireless sets.

Poonch police released photos from the hideout, showing multiple radio sets and five IEDs that were recovered.

This major bust comes just a day after Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, VK Birdi held a joint security review meeting at Kashmir, which was attended by officers from multiple security forces, including the Police, Army, Intelligence Agencies, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

Hideout busted

The hideout was busted during a joint search operation by the army and special operations group of J-K police at Suranthal in Marhote area of Surankote late Sunday evening, the officials said.

As per officials, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by the security forces in Hari village of Poonch district during which a hideout established in natural caves was busted.

The recovered explosive material was also destroyed at the site by forces, said officials, adding that an anti-terror operation is still going on in the area.

IEDs destroyed

All the ready-to-use IEDs, weighing between half a kilogram and five kilograms, were destroyed in a controlled explosion on the spot, effectively thwarting the terrorists’ plans to trigger blasts in the border district, officials said.

According to the officials, two of the IEDs were found planted inside steel buckets, while three others were packed in tiffin boxes.

Additionally, officials said that two wireless sets, five packets of urea, a five-litre gas cylinder, a pair of binoculars, three woolen caps, three blankets, as well as some trousers and utensils, were recovered from the hideout.
