
J-K waiting for Centre to fulfil statehood promise: Farooq Abdullah
National Conference to hold a protest in Delhi on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament to press its demand for the restoration of statehood
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said on Wednesday (June 10) that Jammu and Kashmir was waiting for the Centre to fulfil its commitment of restoring statehood to the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, Farooq Abdullah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently conveyed the assurance to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and added that they are awaiting the fulfilment of the promise on statehood restoration.
Business rules approval
Responding to a question on the delay in the approval of business rules for the Jammu and Kashmir government, Abdullah said his party wants not only the business rules but also the restoration of statehood.

"Statehood is their promise before the world. We are waiting for it," he added.
National protest
National Conference has announced a protest in Delhi on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament in support of its demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision was taken at the meeting of ruling party legislators chaired by Omar Abdullah on June 3.

Jammu and Kashmir ceased to be a state on October 31, 2019, when the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act came into effect, bifurcating the region into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
