Identity confusion
In a chilling coincidence, one of the victims was also named Santosh Jagdale, a native of Pune.
This led to panic among the Sangli Jagdale’s family, who flooded his phone with calls and messages fearing the worst.
He later clarified to his loved ones that he was safe, and the deceased was a different person.
Narrow escape
Reflecting on the ordeal, Santosh recounted, “We had spent the night in Pahalgam. In the morning, we planned to visit Sun Top Point but couldn’t find any horses for the journey. So, we decided to take a different route."
When we eventually made our way back, the horrifying incident had already taken place. Army personnel were all around. They questioned us briefly and then ensured our safe exit,” he said
Though shaken, Santosh was also thankful for his safety. He expressed deep sorrow for the victims. “What happened was wrong. No one should have to go through something like this,” he added.
