Fake British cardiologist performs heart surgeries, allegedly kills 7 in MP

The accused, Narendra Yadav, allegedly has a case registered against him in Hyderabad, and also posted on X in 2023 pretending to be the same British doctor

A fake doctor, posing as a British cardiologist, has allegedly killed at least seven patients by performing heart surgeries on them in a missionary hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.

The accused, whose real name is reportedly Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, posed a British doctor N John Kem and joined a Christian missionary hospital as a cardiologist, according to news agency ANI.

Complaint filed

An advocate, Deepak Tiwari, who is also the district president of the child welfare committee, had filed a complaint against Yadav with the Damoh district magistrate. Tiwari said though the official death count is seven, more people could have died at the hands of the fake doctor.

Tiwari said that some people told him that they had taken their father to this hospital for Yadav to operate on, but they then became apprehensive and took the patient to Jabalpur instead.

Tiwari and others then made enquiries and discovered that Yadav was not who he appeared to be, and that the real doctor, John Kem, was in Britain. That was when they found out that the imposter’s name is actually Narendra Yadav.

Ayushman Bharat scheme

A member of the National Human Rights Commission, Priyanka Kanoongo, said the hospital in question has been the recipient of funds from the government under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. She said it is a serious complaint, and the NHRC has taken cognisance of the matter and were conducting an investigation.

Earlier complaints

Tiwari also claimed that the accused had a case registered against him in Hyderabad, and that he had not shared proper documents to identify himself.

The fake doctor Yadav is further alleged to have posed as the same British Dr John Kem in July 2023 when he had posted on the social media platform X, asking that Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath be sent to France to stop the riots that were occurring there at the time.
