Dehradun woman locked up, tortured for 10 months by husband, in-laws; FIR lodged
Police in Dehradun have registered a case against a woman's husband and in-laws after allegations that she was confined, assaulted, and tortured for 10 months
A woman in Dehradun was kept locked in a room and toilet for 10 months, made to survive only on raw rice and chilli and tortured with bottles and sticks in her private parts for 10 months. The case of brutal domestic violence came to light in a police complaint lodged by the woman’s father.
Following the complaint, police have lodged a case at Selakui Police Station naming the woman’s husband, Rahul Khanduri, and his parents as accused.
Allegations of abuse
The woman, who got married to Rahul two years ago and had twins in February 2025, lived with her in-laws while Rahul was working in Delhi.

According to the complaint, her father, Bahuguna, alleged that her husband subjected her to physical assault and neglected her health whenever he returned home from Delhi on leave. He further alleged that the prolonged torture adversely affected his daughter’s mental health, as reported by NDTV.
The report further stated that apart from her husband, she also faced torture from her father-in-law and mother-in-law. Her father further alleged that she was beaten up with drainpipes, rods, chairs, and floor wipers.
Claims of sustained torture
He stated in the complaint that even her hair was pulled out from her head by the accused, leaving her scalp bare, adding that the accused not only verbally abused him but also threatened to kill his daughter.

Bahuguna further alleged that throughout the 10 months, his daughter was prevented from contacting her family and was not permitted to visit them. He claimed that the family was also denied access to their grandchildren and was repeatedly stopped from meeting them.
Cut off from family
According to the complaint, whenever family members tried to reach her, her in-laws would allegedly tell them that she was either asleep or in the bathroom. Bahuguna alleged that these explanations were routinely given to avoid any interaction between his daughter and her relatives.
"In reality, our daughter was kept locked inside a room or a restroom from nine or ten o'clock in the morning. She was subjected to physical abuse day and night for 10 months. She was not accorded even the basic dignity due to a human being," he said.
The woman’s father further alleged that he and other family members were not allowed to enter her matrimonial home. He claimed that whenever they sought permission to visit her, her in-laws asked them to wait for another 15 days and accused them of interfering in their daughter’s married life.
