The sacred Srivari Salakatla Vasanthotsavam commenced in an atmosphere of devotion and splendour at the Vasanthotsava Mandapam in Tirumala. Organised in the spring season for Sri Malayappa Swamy, to relieve the scorching heat, this festival is also called Upasamanotsavam.
The Mandapam was transformed into a lush, forest-like setting, adorned with vibrant flowers. In this festival, fragrant flowers and several varieties of fruits are offered to the deity. In a divine procession, Sri Malayappa Swamy along with Sridevi Bhudevi reached the Mandapam, where the sacred Snapana Tirumanjanam (holy bath) was performed from 2 to 4 pm.
The Mandapam was transformed into a lush, forest-like setting, adorned with vibrant flowers.
Rituals began with Vishwaksena Aradhana, Punyahavachanam, Navakalasha Abhishekam, and Rajopachara. Subsequently, the offerings of Chhatra Chamara Vyajana Darpanadi, Mukha Prakshalana, and Dhoopa were performed.
As part of the Arghyapada Nivedana, the holy water bath was performed with ksheera (milk), dadhi (curd), madi (honey), narikelam (coconut water), haridrodakam (turmeric), and gandhodakam (sandalwood).
With these, the conch shell, chakradhara, sahasradhara, and Mahakumbha Abhishekam were performed as per Vaikhanasa Agama.
On this occasion, the Vedic scholars recited the Taittariya Upanishad, Purushasukta, Srisukta, Bhusukta, Neelasukta, Panchasanthi mantras, and the connecting verses of the Divya Prabandha during the Abhishekam.
The atmosphere echoed with the chanting of the Taittiriya Upanishad, Purusha Sukta, Srisukta, Bhusukta, and other Vedic hymns by scholars.
Deities were adorned with various garlands after each ritual, following which the Utsava Murthis reached the temple.
On the second day of the Vasanthotsavam on April 11, from 8 to 10 am, Sri Malayappa Swamy, accompanied by Sri Bhu Devis, will take a procession along the four mada streets on the golden chariot. Later, the priests will conduct the Vasanthotsavam in the Vasanthotsava Mandapam.
