Bengaluru court issues non-bailable warrant against Prakash Raj in voter ID case
A Bengaluru court has issued a non-bailable warrant against actor Prakash Raj in a case involving alleged voter registrations across multiple states. The actor has denied the allegations
A non-bailable warrant has been issued against veteran actor Prakash Raj by a Bengaluru court in a case related to his alleged possession of voter identity cards in several states.
According to a report in India Today, the case has its roots in a 2019 complaint by advocate Dileep Kumar at the Halasuru Gate Police Station wherein it was alleged that the actor held voter ID cards in four states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, in violation of election rules.
Kumar stated that no action was taken upon his complaint to the police, following which he approached the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and the Election Commission. He further stated that he moved the court after not getting any response from both the authorities.
Complaint dates back to 2019
The non-bailable warrant was issued by Bengaluru's 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court after Raj allegedly failed to appear despite being served multiple summonses in connection with the case, reported News 18.

The report further stated that court records cited by the complainant indicate that Raj's name appeared in voter rolls linked to Shanthinagar in Bengaluru, Serilingampally in Telangana and Velachery in Tamil Nadu. The complaint further claimed that two separate voter registrations were associated with the Tamil Nadu constituency.
‘Raj didn’t respond to notices’
Election rules permit an individual to be registered as a voter at only one place of ordinary residence. Following a review of the material placed before it, the court took cognisance of the matter and issued summonses on several occasions.

According to the court, the actor did not respond to the notices or appear before the bench, prompting it to adopt coercive measures to secure his presence.
Raj has previously rejected similar claims, maintaining that he holds only one valid voter registration and attributing the discrepancies to errors in electoral records.
