Bengaluru stampede LIVE | BJP, JD(S) doing politics over dead bodies: Shivakumar
Addressing criticism about going ahead with RCB celebrations despite the deaths, Shivakumar says he had no information about the stampede at that moment
Heads keep rolling in Karnataka.
A day after suspending Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and other senior police officers over the deadly stampede that killed 11 people, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday (June 6) dismissed his political secretary, K. Govindaraj. The government also transferred Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Intelligence, Hemant Nimbalkar.
Reports suggest that K Govindaraj allegedly overruled police objections and gave the go-ahead for the RCB victory parade, a decision now under scrutiny.
"The appointment of K Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Accordingly, K Govindaraj is hereby relieved from the post of Political Secretary to the Chief Minister with immediate effect," an official notification said.
Conceding that there was an intelligence failure in connection with the stampede incident, the CM on Thursday said, "No decision has been made yet about what action to be taken in this regard. We have discussed it."
