Bengaluru’s first digital population clock unveiled at ISEC

Bengaluru's first digital population clock was inaugurated at the Institute for Social Economic Change (ISEC) Bengaluru on Friday (November 8)
The digital population clock displays real-time population estimates for Karnataka and India. It updates the state’s population every one minute and 10 seconds and the country’s population every two seconds.

It has been set up at the entrance of ISEC with the objective of creating awareness about the population growth of the country and providing authentic data for researchers and scholars.
Digital population clocks have been set up at 18 Population Research Centres (PRCs) in 16 states across India.

The digital population clock in Bengaluru has come up thanks to a joint project by ISEC and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
C M Lakshmana, professor and head, Population Research Centre (PRC) at ISEC, said: “The clock has been equipped with a satellite connection for precise timekeeping. It operates autonomously with all necessary components integrated into the system.”
In addition to the clock, ISEC introduced a Census Data Research Work Station, equipped with advanced tools to support researchers and students in analysing census data.
