Elderly woman's skeletal remains discovered in Bengaluru house; probe underway
Dakshayini, a Belagavi native who had been living alone in Bengaluru, was identified by her brother after police recovered skeletal remains from her residence
Bengaluru, Aug 8 (PTI) The skeletal remains of a 57-year-old woman were recovered by the police in her residence in Bengaluru, officials said on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Dakshayini, a native of Saundatti taluk in Belagavi district, they said.
The incident was reported from her residence in Havanur Layout under the Bagalgunte police station limits on August 7.
According to police, in his statement, the deceased's brother, Mahesh Basappa, said that Dakshayini had developed mental health issues after the death of her son in 2005. She was subsequently treated at hospitals in Bengaluru and Shivamogga, where doctors diagnosed her with schizophrenia, and she also underwent treatment at a rehabilitation centre for about four months.
Dakshayini had been living alone at her house for several years since the death of her husband in 2017 and had not been in touch with her family for about two years, police said.
On August 7, police informed Mahesh that a body had been found at his sister's house. He went to the spot and identified her, they said.
He stated that he has no suspicion whatsoever regarding the death and does not suspect anyone, police said, adding that an unnatural death report under Section 194 of the BNSS has been registered and further proceedings have been initiated. PTI
