IAF officer assaulted, wife abused on Bengaluru road

Police officials said that they were trying to find the officer, as no formal complaint had been registered yet

An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer was allegedly attacked in broad daylight by a group of men in Bengaluru while being driven to the airport by his wife, who is also an officer in the Air Force.

The incident occurred near the DRDO colony in CV Raman Nagar, where the couple resides.

According to Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose, a biker intercepted their vehicle and began hurling verbal abuses in Kannada. Upon spotting a DRDO sticker on the car, the man allegedly started abusing Bose's wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita, and said, 'You, DRDO people'.

When Bose stepped out to confront the man, the biker reportedly struck him with a key on the forehead, leaving him bleeding.

Disturbing video

With visible injuries to his head and neck, Bose recorded a video from inside his car shortly after the assault. In the video, he described the incident and expressed disbelief over the public’s apathy.

“I stood there shouting, ‘This is how you defend people whom we defend you, treating someone like this from the army, air force and Navy,” he said.

But to his surprise, more people gathered and started abusing them. "One man even picked up a stone and hit me," the officer said.

No response from police

Bose and his wife allegedly went to a police station to file a complaint, but he claims there was no prompt response. "This is what Karnataka has become," he said. "God help us. God give me the power not to retaliate.”

He warned that if law enforcement failed to act, he might be forced to defend himself during such incidents in the future.

Investigation underway

Police officials said that they were trying to find the officer as no formal complaint had been registered yet. They said they have identified the officer’s wife and are attempting to verify the sequence of events.

Also, it was unclear whether the assault was unprovoked or triggered because of something.

Meanwhile, some reports said the biker had been tracked down and arrested. The IAF has extended support to the injured officer, but has not issued any official statement so far.
