Jog Falls: A grand welcome awaits visitors with world-class amenities
With most of the construction nearly completed, temporary restrictions for visitors have been lifted, and Jog Falls is once again open to the public
Jog Falls, one of the most awe-inspiring waterfalls in the world and a jewel of Karnataka’s Shivamogga district, is undergoing a major transformation aimed at enriching the visitor experience. Massive infrastructure development projects are progressing rapidly to enhance this natural wonder.
During his tenure, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa allocated Rs 185 crore for Jog Falls’ development. Building on this, the Karnataka Department of Tourism, Shivamogga district administration, and the Jog Development Authority have jointly launched a series of projects worth over Rs 180 crore. These works are being executed by Shankar Narayana Construction Company and are now nearing completion.

With most of the construction nearly completed, temporary restrictions for visitors have been lifted, and Jog Falls is once again open to the public.
Project delays and revised timeline
Initially scheduled for completion by November 2024, the works faced delays due to unexpected rainfall. The contractor requested an extension until November 2025, which the state government has approved. With the release of the required funds, the pace of work has accelerated, and completion is expected within the next year.
Modern infrastructure and attractions
As part of the development, a modern entrance gateway is being built. From here, visitors can stroll along a scenic walking path leading to a specially designed viewing tower.

Before reaching the tower, visitors can explore a shopping complex, followed by exclusive galleries offering close-up views of the majestic falls.
A beautiful children's park, snack counters, and resting lounges are also under construction for added comfort and entertainment.
Ropeway and water adventures
A ropeway from the front of the waterfall to the historic British Bungalow is under construction to provide a panoramic aerial view of Jog Falls. Additionally, boating and water sports activities are being set up at the nearby Talakalale Dam, enhancing the adventure offerings for visitors.
Phase-wise development
In Phase 1, the following components have already been completed: Viewing tower, commercial shopping units, walking paths, mini-shelters for watching the falls, entry gate with ticket counters and dedicated pathways for entry and exit
Phase 2 has now begun and includes the construction of a star hotel with around 80 rooms, a large parking area to handle increased visitor vehicle traffic.
What’s coming more
Future additions planned as part of the project include a ropeway (in progress), expanded parking facilities, a rain dance zone, a musical fountain, glass house, an additional landscaped park, a giant Ferris wheel, and a museum featuring comprehensive information on Jog Falls and the local hydroelectric power generation.
Once completed, these large-scale improvements are expected to elevate Jog Falls to one of the most prominent tourist destinations in India, combining natural beauty with modern amenities.
