Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah seeks Governor's appointment amid resignation speculation
Siddaramaiah may submit his resignation to the Governor, though no official confirmation has emerged on the matter so far
Amid mounting speculation over a possible leadership transition in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly sought an appointment with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Thursday (May 28), according to sources in the Chief Minister’s Office.
Resignation speculation grows
Political circles in the state have been abuzz with reports suggesting that Siddaramaiah may step down, potentially clearing the path for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to assume the top post.

"Yes, he has sought time to meet the Governor tomorrow," reported PTI, quoting a source close to the Chief Minister.
The report further stated that Siddaramaiah may submit his resignation to the Governor, though no official confirmation has emerged on the matter so far.
Delhi consultations and timing
The developments come after extensive discussions involving senior Congress leaders in New Delhi. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reportedly held separate as well as joint meetings with Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.
A final decision regarding a possible change in leadership is expected after the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled next month, stated the report.
Leadership debate resurfaces
The issue of leadership in Karnataka has resurfaced repeatedly since the Congress government completed two-and-a-half years in office.
Shivakumar's supporters have reportedly continued pressing for a transfer of leadership, while proposals regarding Siddaramaiah's future role within the party structure have also been discussed. These include a larger national responsibility and a Rajya Sabha berth, though it is understood that no consensus has been reached.

At the centre of the internal discussions is Shivakumar's long-standing assertion that a leadership arrangement had been worked out during the 2023 Assembly elections, under which Siddaramaiah would lead the government during the first half of the term.
Focus shifts to Bengaluru meeting
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah on Wednesday briefly addressed questions regarding his recent interactions with the party leadership after paying floral tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
When asked specifically about talks with the party high command, Siddaramaiah said, "We will talk about it tomorrow,” reported ANI.
Attention has now shifted to Thursday's scheduled breakfast meeting between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar in Bengaluru, with party leaders maintaining that discussions remain focused on organisational matters despite continuing speculation over a change of guard.
